Since you use linux, the onboard ATI GPU won't be feasible thanks to ultra noobish linux drivers that ATI provides. So, either way you need to get a GPU. Now that P55 boards are available for 6.5k-7k, my money will be on core i5+P55+DDR3. for GPU, you need to do a research on which GPU is budget most feasible with linux. I woiuld vouch for 9600GT which is available for 4.5k and is enough for AV editing and occasional gaming.

HP has been having that problem a lot. 2 of my friends had the same problem. Now the warranty ios over and HP is asking for about 27k to replace motherboard. Try the Dell Inspiron15 or studio series. Customize it to your need. I think it comes with a gaphics card, or you can add one. In fact, just go to the Dell website and take your pick in your budget range. Yeah desii, that's the main reason I don't want to go with an Ati onboard. What about 9600GSO? It is better than GT, right?? Also will games look good at 1280*1024 on a Full HD monitor?
