@redfan: you are right in a sense, as the roots of their system was created in 1883: http://www.photius.com/countries/germany/society/g ... But the USSR was the first country with a "single payer" system where the government was the sole provider of health coverage.

"Existing regulatory institutions haven't exactly proven themselves up to the task either (remember how awesome the SEC was at busting Bernie Madoff's ponzi scheme? Yeah...)" There's a flaw in your devil's advocacy here. Your premise is that a reduction in government is called for, then cite as evidence what happened when a governmental regulatory agency was helmed by people who didn't bother...

A Tesla Model S is leaps and bounds beyond a Chevy Malibu, Broseph. Would you compare the Roadster to a Mustang? Come on, now. The Model S is for someone who might buy a BMW, Mercedes, Infiniti, Acura, etc. It's an expensive car, but at $50,000 for a nice sedan that gets such a huge range, I give them mad props. And as for subsidizing, FYI, Tesla got ***** absolute crumbs compared to Chevy's ***** from the bailout. Terrible argument....

"Unfortunately, Fannie Mae-quality, safe loans in the subprime market did not become the standard, and the lending market moved away from us [ie. not using fannie's standard]. Borrowers were offered a range of loans [by lenders not conforming to Fannie's Standard] that layered teaser rates, interest-only, negative amortization and payment options and low-documentation requirements on top of floating-rate loans."...

Religion is but a tool, like a computer, or money. Should the user of the computer finish their homework or spread a virus which destroys the ability of another to finish their homework, or someone use money to build a bridge and another to buy a bomb to blow it up. To attribute a human condition to an inhuman noun is not scientific, it is symbolical, a human inflection upon an inhuman object. To me it's a slippery slope. Since religion...

Career politicians are elected by the very same people who complain about career politicians like you. We already have congressional term limits, they're called ELECTIONS. If your state can't muster the strength to elect a new Senator or rep, then that's your state's problem with its citizens and has absolutely nothing or very little to do with how the legislative branch functions.

I'm not a Republican, but as a libertarian conservative I'm happy to act as Devil's Advocate for this argument. For Krugman the answer always seems to be more government - why isn't a REDUCTION in government spending ever considered as a viable option? Yes, some of the shady deals that inflated the bubble might have been reigned in with more regulatory authority, but the primary cause of the bubble was the Federal...

I unfortunatly have to agree with him. There faith is misguided however they do have a lot of conviction. It is the same thing that got Bill Mahar politically incorrect cancelled. You can say a lot of things about terrorist. You however cannot say they lack conviction to there faith.

My thoughts exactly. "it could take two decades before they [electric vehicles] are in widespread use" How long, exactly, did it take to get charge stations in places in Los Angeles for GM's EV-1 in 1997? 20 years? 10 years? Try 6 months. Typical CEO - greedy, soulless, amoral, lying sack of *****.

Well, people there weren't necessarily happy with their country before. At least we're trying to improve things, rather than the last government which was intentionally trying to keep things in the stone age.

The tragic part of all this is that the American public has now seen without question that the Democrats and Obama will say anything, make any deal, to get the healthcare reform bill passed in the Senate. They have long ago abandoned any attempt to be honest with the public as to what they are trying to achieve. You don't like the public option? We'll support the private option (with ...
