@acknot Think of it this way. If the government is paying for someones food and medical costs and they estimate that they could save $2000 if the person became healthier. So, they offer an extra $1000 to the person if they lose weight and exercise. The person gets an extra $1000, maybe to go towards healthier food and gym, and the state saves $1000. Ultimately, this doesn't require taking away from people that don't live poorly....

The law doesn't work on whether she was smart enough to know better. The cigarette companies sold something that harmed her. They should pay for that. Period. What I'm waiting for is the litigation against McDonald's, In-N-Out, and the like for causing heart disease.

We had PE when I was kid, but we never really did anything until I was in the 8th grade or so. And then in highschool, PE wasn't required. But I stayed relatively healthy by *gasp!* playing outside. And I also began playing Diablo 1 a lot when I was 9, so we can't blame games or TV or any other *****. Though my parents never let me play 8 hours at a time, and every day that it was raining or cold as balls, I played outside quite a...

Your employer has it right. But insurance companies should have realized long ago that they have a strong financial interest in doing much more than handing out free water bottles. The free market really isn't nearly as tidy as many people would have us believe.

I'd bet about anything that you could correlate intensity of religious beliefs with near the same percentages, and put the circle of highest concentration of intense believers in the same location over midwest / deep south. What Im saying is, dumb people are more likely to become obese.

How is citing so many sources on what cannabis can do for you BS? The intellectual argument is that people don't seem to have understood just how great it can be so I provide easy links to information. What the hell else should I argue. I like smoking weed! ***** you! That's true too but I have researched why it's a good thing to vaporize cannabis as I do.

Awesome to see how plastic our brains really are. Demonstrated years ago by Moshe Feldenkrais but only now coming to be accepted by the medical profession at large. Why does change take so long?

We've had a war on poverty since LBJ started the Great Society programs. We've spent a combined 12 trillion dollars and we still have the same ***** percentage of poor. Money will not solve this problem, this problem is because government programs pay for them to sit on their ass. Take away the incentives and unless they want to starve to death they'll get a job or learn a trade.

I don't think I'm missing the point at all. I didn't take a stance on the side of the health care debate (in that particular post), I was trying to point out that this study is flawed, misses a key point, and does not add anything to the debate as the article states because of these reasons. Statistics are meaningless if all aspects are considered (and in some cases meaningless even if they are...

I agree completely. But I am also skeptical that big pharma companies, if a cure was found, would allow it to be released in due time. They must maintain their profit margins!

Never hurt my friends or me. We even drank from garden hoses and went on adventures on our bicycles until after dark. (I know, I know -- more dangerous than base jumping, but we were young and crazy).
