Walmart Defends Sick Leave...

Good question. I would argue that the companies started abandoning the employees first when the MBA started becoming such a popular career path and started popularizing outsourcing and cost cutting measures. The employee loyalty problem probably emerged from the resulting job losses.

hahaha. you think walmart has to follow standard practices? walmart skirts benefit laws by making sure employees don't work 40hour full time weeks (often having them clock out at hour 39) and discouraging lunch breaks.

Right-wing WHAAAAGBL gets buried. The housing market crashed because the right-wingers let their friends on Wall Street go unregulated. It's not going to happen again because Obama is now in charge.

The Origins of the US Dollar

I'm going to be short because Digg ate my previous reply, so here goes. I think you are misunderstanding the purpose and process of "pegging" money to something. When money is "pegged" to gold then you can walk into the bank that issued the money and demand gold in exchange for all your money. The bank would then give you gold at whatever value it is currently pegged at. All this does is limit the bank...

Where I work, we don't have separate sick or vacation days. We just have "personal leave" days. Funny thing is that we receive demerits for using them as sick days, but using them as vacation time is ok. The punchline is that I work for a hospital.

Removing the minimum wage does not create slavery. Minimum wage artificially inflates prices and wages, which actually forces companies to fire people to cover the cost of business. It PROMOTES unemployment. You're too busy spouting rhetorical nonsense that you don't bother to consider the nature of value. "You guys are idiots" How many guys is heliumflash anyways?? darkescaflowne = massive troll.

"I ain't defending Wal-Mart. But many large and not so large businesses have similar illness policies these days." Sure you're defending them. You're saying "hey, it's no big deal, lots of places do it". It IS a big deal What Wally World is doing is evil, and it's equally evil when others do it too.

Weak Economy Spurs Shoplifting...

This is BS. There have always been tons of shoplifters and they have always been fighting and abusive.More excuses to commit a crime. Shoplifters rarely if ever steal something they need.

Recession tales: The workplace...
Published (2009-11-06 00:00:00)
The Economics 101 stuff makes people feel smart. How much does it cost to print the 20 Millionth copy of Microsoft Windows? DEMAND is a function of how much money people have to spend. Most things that have a limit -- the reduction in supply is artificial and created by a Business/Government parasitic relationship. GM and Ford did not produce electric cars. But now all the auto makers in the world are producing Electric cars and leaving them...

I still think it's good we didn't let the conservatives privatize it under W Bush. If it had all gone into the stock market, we would be facing an absolute disaster right now.

The workplace is changing forever, yes. It's called a completely globalized world. Corporations will dominate, the middle-class will sink lower, the rich will get richer and capitalism will reign supreme. It's good if you're smart and sought after, bad if you're average. Most jobs will be outsourced to countries whose citizens can do the exact same quality work for less. The working class ...

I hate these unemployment numbers--the government has been cooking them for decades. Add 5-8% to get a more realistic number.
