air in fuel

Have you tried what i mentioned above? If not then try it. It would have been much easier than pulling the lift pump. it only takes a few minutes to do and would completely eliminate the tanks and their respective lines and the switching valve.

Sure it would. You may be getting air in the fuel, and in any case it's not getting the fuel it should. Come to think of it, mine was lacking power before I replaced the pump for the first time.

jsut to add to the bowl, you can remove the black plastic stand pipe, but it is REVERSE thread, then clean out the bowl from there. Unplug teh fuel heater and leave it.

Have you pulled the filter and looked into the fuel filter bowl again to make sure you do not have anything in the bottom of the bowl? Don't drain the bowl before you pull the filter (but I would drain some off before you reinstall the filter). Even if it is clear water you will be able to see it through the fuel in the bowl - looks like a bubble resting at the bottom of the fuel bowl.

Well I suppose the sensor could be bad or the wiring to it. If not I'd look toward the tanks or where you are getting fuel. My two pennies.

[quote=MAILMANWV;1810987]tired of getting stuck in wet fields!!! That reminds me of when my truck was new in 1997. I was parked on the grass at a local watering hole, it rained while we were inside "testing beverage temperatures". When I was leaving some of my fellow "inspectors" came out to check out my new truck. I was bragging how this thing would probably go anywhere hauling anything! I hopped up in the...

Hey Larry, Thanks for the reply, but as I stated in my last post, I replaced the fuse and the scanner worked. There just wasn't any codes stored as if everything was fine. After replacing the defective new glow plug relay, everything seems fine now and truck starts and runs well. Thanks again for everyone's help in resolving my starting issue.

First check the under valve cover harness. 2 plugs going to valve covers on each side. Unplug passenger side one at a time see if it makes difference. Then drivers side. If it does possibly bad valve cover gaskets 2pins in each plug are for injectors and 2 for glow plugs, center pin is ground. If no difference check the IDM module bolts to fenderwell drivers side 3 -5/16 screws hold it in and 10mm bolts harness to module. Pull it and shake it...

Well, the first obvious question would be... were the posts on the new batteries just like the other set of batteries (+ where it should be, - where it should be), or were they reversed? I've seen some of the larger batteries with posts opposite what you would think they should be. Next would be to make sure that your cables hadn't gotten crossed some way.
The next thing would be if your ...

My new 95 PSD sounds a little funny when going from high RPMs down to idle then after about a second it settles and resumes a nice smooth sound. Is this normal? It also sounds this way when I first start it. It takes a second to find a nice smooth idle. Both events sound the same (like it's fishing for a second to find idle).
Is this normal? This is my first Powerstroke. So far I love it! ...

no throttle response in no increase in rpms? or it the truck won't get out of its own way?
if the tps/ivs is malfunctioning the cel should be on at the same time,
it may be the exhaust backpressure valve which aids in warming up the engine.

Also, need to mention that she has had a tough time starting in cold temps,
I have replaced batteries and the starter along with a new lift pump because of a fuel leak. WTS light still comes on and cycles and batts are new within the year. I did notice today that she was down 3 qts of oil and I noticed a significant amount of oil in the intake eg; engine oil at the turbo outlet to the intake ...

truck shakes when under load
I have a 97 with a manual trans and 248,000 miles on it. Taking off from a stop light and accelerating after each shift the truck shakes until the rpm's raise to a certain point- about 1500+. I don't smell burnt wires under the valve covers, and the oil is fairly fresh. Could it be the hpop going south? Happy...

Stripped Fuel Pump Bolt
I decided to tackle the leaking fuel damper/accumulator on my wifes 97 California model PSD. Since its such a pain to get the turbo off I decided to replace the fuel pump while I was in there…
Everything was going well until I went to remove the two 10mm bolts which hold the pump in place. One of the ...

Did you use the Amsoil Syn ATF or the Synthetic Manual Synchromesh trans fluid?

First thought would be contaminated fuel. Have you fueled the truck since you bought it? If so, did the truck run differently before and after fueling?
A few other questions come to mind as well:
Is the check engine light showing?
Have you had the codes read? If so, what are they (if any)?
Smoke white, gray or black?
Can you smell raw diesel fuel in the exhaust?
Mine did ...

Hate to drag up an old post but my 96 has started corroding on the front wheels as well.
Very seldom driven on salted roads.
I'm thinking the new truck wash I have started using is causing this.
This is an automated touchless wash big enough for duallys.
It has a wheel cleaner option and I think it must be pretty corrosive.
The fluid is getting trapped behind the center caps ...

I'm no expert but you definitely have major wear on internal engine parts.
Questions,
How many miles on the engine? What type of service was the truck doing?
What type of air filter was used?
I would pull the intake boot at the turbo and take a look at the vanes and check the shaft bearings for play, my thought on this is it may tell you what has been ingested by the engine....

Anybody have this problem
My 97 has a drivers side rear brake light out and the turn signal doesn't work, bulb is good, here is the weird part when traveling down highway
if I turn right signal on the truck will kick down out of over drive, will also kick it out of cruise control. I replaced the turn signal lever with no fix. I just dread ...
