Thank you to the readers and fans of reCareered for helping me to help you this year. I’m thankful for your encouragement and support, for your engagement. I’m even thankful for your criticisms, which keeps me on my toes, always striving to deliver better content. Even though some of you face difficult times with the job market, I wish each and every one of you finds something to be thankful for. Have a wonderful Thanksgiving! Phil Rosenberg

Document everything from email to source control system logs to cover you azz. You might need these evidential artifacts in the event you pursue a lawsuit for wrongful dismissal or other sanctions. Do NOT take the situation sitting down if management starts looking for a scapegoat. At the very least the mutual manager of yourself and the former coworker should step up and accept responsibility for the obvious lack of code review during the...

So very glad I'm helping promoting your business. It's still an ad, no matter how you slice it. If people are foolish enough to fall prey, that's not my problem and to your benefit. Ooooh, you win!!! Rah! However, for personal reasons, this c*ap is ending now. Have fun playing and gathering business that will not help anyone.

OK - obviously most people get fired for this in the private sector, as you are no doubt aware. I am guessing that the rubber room functions as a sort of hockey penalty box for this kind of offense. It's not clear to me that getting the "rubber...

Do you know people who have actually gotten positions through linked in and/or facebook? I have had recruiters call me in the past because I listed my name and company name in linkedin. I removed the company name to stop the unethical phishing. I got the calls but they were not for me! Facebook is another issue. Do you trust it? Thank you for the information....

SJ is right on. If any of us are disgusted with the state of IT and still really enjoy IT enough to keep at it, then we should stand up and fight for our right to earn a good living doing the work we enjoy. If all that IT folk are going to get is scraps until nothing is left for us, then to Hades with the anti-unionist opinions. Why don't we IT folk hire some lawyers and ...

Organizations like the AARP try to make it illegal to ask about age. But I think that tactic is ineffective. These days, it's easy for a company to find your age. What I propose: make it mandatory to ask an applicant's age. Also, make it mandatory to have a certain percentage of older workers. Just as you can not hire only white workers, or only male workers, you can not ...

If you are currently in school, get yourself a job with Staples tech center or Best Buy's Geek Squad. The field as it stands today must be approached from the bottom up. I would familiarize myself with selling some of the business software by understanding accounting principles and how the software is used. From that experience, you could land yourself an entry level ...
