Long awaited Interview
Published (2009-12-07 21:25:00)
Rightly said. But the worst part is, the recruiter sent me mails after 3 weeks of final round, saying they will be making final decision by so and so date. After that he never bothered to inform me whether the decision was made or not. Nor are those openings closed on their web site. My experience with the interviews was also not pleasant. The interview lasted for 11 hours in total with 12 people and final interview started an hour late than...

That depends on a number of factors, including work history relavence, how long you've been off work, education and the educational requirements, years of experience (too much? Too little?), who you know, and the quality of other people who have applied for the same job.

I think anything over two is way too much. I'm talking on-site interviews - I assume you may have had a few phone interviews & a few on-site? If it's more than two on-site that's absurd.

Go to the interview. Dont mention your offer. If they make an offer, mention you have an offer. Compare the two. Try to play the two off each other. To have this sort of scenario in this economy is fantastic!

Patience is a virtue, but it does have its limits. My personal max was six, pure BS, and I did not get the job, which is probably a good thing.

companies do seem to be rude & slow these days; I had a place not contact me after a month, then after I sent a polite email inquiry just huffily replied "sorry you did not get the job." It could be they are delaying to a new year (new fiscal/budgetary year?). I would think that the longer you haven't heard, the more likely it is you didn't get the job.

In this economy? Yes. Getting 17 interviews in a 5 month period is a feat in itself. Wages are falling and requirements are going up. Even the contracting agencies are pre-screening their potential contractors now (this was unheard of just last year, at least for me). Don't let your aggravation affect your interviewing, ask intelligent questions (even if it is just to ...

If you have reference letters, you may want to clarify with the company if they are acceptable By asking for references, the general assumption is telephone refs.

I just called the person who set up the interview (I needed to talk to her anyway) and mentioned I had a cold but I was fine with comming in, and left the option to reschedule if any of the people I was interviewing with didn't want to be exposed to it.

It's tough to say what they will discuss. Just like no two snowflakes are alike, the same applies to companies interview processes as well. They may introduce you to members of the team you would potentially be working with. These folks could ask you more questions (technical and non-technical) to see if you are a good "fit". Just be yourself and defend your answers with...

Good idea but talking to them about it won't help. usually the hiring manager won't know anymore than you do about the true nature of their finances. If they are a publicly traded company look there. A good way is to find who their vendors are and see if the company is delinquent on payments or has continually forestalled purchases.

Dear ZEUS24, Most managers want to meet with a few candidates so they can gauge the market and see how you stack up against other applicants. They didn't say no, but its obvious that the company is still exploring its options. Keep looking and stay in-touch with the manager, you never know what might happen. Good luck.
