Metformin-side effects
Published (2009-12-22 21:08:00)
Hey Granny Shanny- Yeah, I read that after the fact. But, the Endo gave me the XR cause he said they are usually tolerated better. I'm calling them tomorrow. Maybe I need the regualr so I can cut in half.... Thanks as always for your input.

Metformin-side effects

Tina, I was on Metformin before. Because I'm very sensitive to meds, my endo started me on 500 mg, then several days later upped it to 500 BID [twice a day], and eventually 500 TID [3 times a day]. In spite of that I got nauseous and almost gave up. Then, through some fluke, I started taking the pill in the middle of a meal and it was so much easier. I've since learned that some people take Benefiber with the pill and the fiber seems...

Thank you! My problem is night time for some reason. Well yesterday before bed without eating anything over 5 carbs. it was 120. The highest I have seen since start Atkins. I am hoping that with time it will resolve its self. I know 120 is not that bad, but 3 hours after eating a 5 carb. meal seems high to me. Fasting was down to 93 though and 2 hours after breakfast was 107. So those are good.

I bet you're right - if the XR comes in 250 dosage, I can't find it. 'Course I can barely read the PDR anymore - too small print.

Hi Saabgirl88! Congratulations on your learning experience. The huge difference in the numbers indicate that your body reacts well to the Atkins form of eating. I also encourage you to demand some time from your family so that you can get out and do some exercise, even if it's only a half hour. You will feel a whole lot better.

Could this be Pre-Diabetes ?
Published (2009-12-19 17:01:00)
I'm not sure if I should see a doctor. If I drink alot of water and go to the bathroom there is little to no bubbles and the urine is more white. If I do not drink that much water the urine is more yellow and way more bubbley . I don't know if it is lack of water in by body or drinking the water flushes out water ever is building up. Some one was saying too much acid can do that and some times my urine is more acidity.

Very Simple FBS Question
Published (2009-12-16 17:27:00)
Ronin, I get all results and post visit summaries electronically and so does the doctor. That part is great. Unfortunately, this provider follows extremely minimalistic approach. In many instances, one would have to go to the ER to be seen. In my case, I have asked for a number of tests including OGTT and c-peptide (upon your recommendation and given my proportional weight) but they think I am just simply too worried about a health risk that...

Good luck to you! Wanted to bump this up, I hope someone else will be along to help. I'd say maybe try to the Met Extended Release if you haven't already. I was one of the lucky ones that didn't have any of those nasty side effects.

Your doing well for a new comer at it. I would add the additional walking or exercise if you haven't already done that. Studies show that for some people the diet and exercise is the best way to stave off diabetic problems. It may not last forever, but I like you choose to stay away from medications as long as possible. If you have to, you have too and the saying goes. best wishes Larry

see a doctor. Foamy urine may be a sign of excess protein due to kidney disease. A simple test can check.

Laboratory glucose measurements are going to be very much more accurate and precise than a home meter.
That being said, based on the numbers you've given and their consistency, I wouldn't waste the gas to go to your doctors office if it were for a fasting blood glucose only.
Maybe he just wants an official hard copy to put in your file so he can track it?

Welcome Tenacious! Glad you found the forums. Lots of great advice and friendly people here.

With Insulin resistance, that means your body isn't utilizing insulin as well as it should. With that, your sugar goes up. Your body tries to compensate by pushing out even more insulin to counteract the high sugar.

How are your sugars throughout the rest of the day?
Welcome to the forums, btw. I don't really have any answers..
Are you on, or have you considered taking medications? I would also perhaps suggest something like a C-Peptide and GAD Antibody test, or some form of a blood test to see how your serum insulin is.
It could be that you're developing LADA (Type 1.5), and your pancreas is ...

Hopefully someone else can answer your question more thoroughly, but good on you for taking control and checking early! I think those numbers sound decent, if maybe a LITTLE high. I would think they still fall within the normal ranges, though.

You are probably experiencing what is known as the dawn phenomenon. Basically, as you sleep your blood sugar starts to dip. Your body has a natural defense mechanism when your blood sugar dips to prevent lows: your liver. When you start going low, your liver dumps glucose into your blood stream. This is why even if you did not treat a low, although it would feel unpleasant, you would not die from...
