Oh, both my meter and the sugarstats log concur - average is up slightly to 113 because of the oatmeal and 2 slices of bread. However, I am testing much more often that is required and those extra high numbers are figured into the average. I wonder what my doc will say when I get my next a1c test in 3 months? PS I got a George Foreman Grill today. So I can have my cheeseburgers and eat them too, while cutting back on the fat at the same time.

I get very bored drinking (and eating too) the same things over and over again. I'm another fan of the low-carb camp, but there are certainly alternative options (insulin, for one). My typical day: Breakfast- Atkins Breakfast Bar OR Eggs, bacon OR slice of whole wheat toast with cheese. Lunch- Salad (mixed greens, tomato, cucumber, chicken, bacon bits, cheese) with LOADS of dressing OR Chicken Breast, steamed broccoli. I personally have...

Jumping on a 20 gram carb diet right off the bat my be a hard pill to swallow for me. I am currently doing a 100 and plan to taper down some until I learn more. You can help him by cooking some of Chef Barrae's recipes available on this forum. Being a nurse you probably work 12hr shifts and must be exhausted by the time you make it home. There are many quick fast snakes that both of you would love.

First, make that MD appt. You will immediately feel better -- you have a plan in place. Get childcare lined up, just in case, if you need to. THEN walk, lower your carb intake, etc. until that appointment. When I got to my MDs office and was wheeled from there, into the hospital (and I WAITED 3 days after a reading on DH's meter of 447 -- SO DUMB, but, I even discussed these numbers with a couple medical professionals and no one told me...

Hi Linda, I've actually thought about the possibility of needing to go on insulin just to regulate things and get my back on track. I don't suppose that would be too horribly bad. But that's also why I'm freaking out so much, trying to eat the right things and bring it down now before I go see the doctor. I haven't tested urine ketones. And honestly, I didn't GOOGLE it yet, so I have no idea what that even means....

Losing excess fat mass (weight) is good for many reasons, including improved BG control... even only 10% seem to reap huge benefits. Just don' kill yourself with starvation diets and overdoing it at the gym -- find an approach that works for you, that you can sustain for life.

Yes, depression is a fickle thing when it comes to meds. I'm lucky enough to be a ridiculously happy person. So, it's hard but she's a lot better now, but we all know the big D never goes away. I will definetly post a chat on that if that becomes a bigger issue. I just really want her to take her self worth and health more seriously for now. So that I can feel like she wants a future seriously with me. She does just enough to...

savvysearch, I might try that but I'm afraid that laundry for three people and towels for four will get pretty backed up and I'd spend most of my Saturday or Sunday doing it and putting it away. It's the putting it away that gets ya! It was so much easier for my mom as a stay at home mother. Monday was laundry day and rain nor sleet would keep her from doing it on that day. Some days I really envy my sister. I sigh and roll my...

UUUUMMMM, I am a herbivore and it seems MUCH HARDER for me to find lower-carb choices, than the carnivores!
Good luck to you, and welcome!
And yes, look into getting off Geodon. But, getting off it may not mean and end to your insulin resistance. That must be a wait-and-see thing.

Welcome to the forums! Sounds like you're on the right track, specially seeing an endo at Joslin.
My ALT and AST were both extremely high (459 (21-72) and 280 (17-52)) as well. I'm going back for my next round of bloodwork in January, so I'm sure hoping they're going to be down as well.
Anyway, welcome to the party you never really wanted to come to, because we don't really have cake. :P

Hi. I think everything you say is understandable. You're going through a really rough trot and have the signs of a major condition upon you. I also think that the only way to deal with diabetes is face on. There are two things I think you need to get right now. First, you shouldn't do it yourself. You need support, husband support, family support, friend support, community support. You've got ...

Test test test! I know you've seen that a LOT if you've been reading this forum. I'm guessing (by your experience) that your Doc thinks you're T2. The "lose weight" is there because it's typically the excess weight that leads to insulin resistance.
What you'll want to do is start cutting certain things out of meals, and testing after these meals to see how your numbers are.

Welcome.
It depends on who suggested what. If it was a dietitian or a certified diabetic educator, well ... I don't listen to either anymore, not that I recommend anyone do that. They do have lots to offer newbies and even experienced diabetics. I and many here believe that high carbohydrate diets are the cause of ALL of our woes. The science backs this, but nearly 40 years of policy says ...

Hey welcome to the forum.
I'm not very experienced with diabetes, what is your present food intake? exercise.. etc.
There are a lot of threads here about how to manage diabetes well, for example, when I listen to my doctor who tells me to test 3 times per day - my diabetes control suffers..
I went through a phase of testing at least 12 times per day, it helped me to have a clue about ...

Love your name, love Blue Willow pattern!
Welcome. YES the nutrition info is terribly contradictory - -there is currently a Great Schism in nutrition, particularly between the low fat and low carb advice for diabetics.
Having tried low fat, I am now in the low(ER) carb camp.
My Endo thinks I need at least 40 g per meal. If I eat 15 g per meal, right now, I spike.

Welcome to the club.
Those first a1cs are great but almost too good for a T1 unless you are in the ' honeymoon' period. I had almost a year where everything was great and then, wham. If that is the case, your old regimen would break down too. I did pretty well on MDI until I got my pump with each bringing more control. Good luck and stay with the program!
