Sounds like you are going to have alot of new recipe ideas to share when you come back home. I'm happy that you have so many options, even with your celiac restrictions. Enjoy your vacation. Happy Thanksgiving!

Some people are just more sensitive to carbs than others. When your body eats carbs, your pancreas has to work overtime to produce extra insulin to push the glucose into your cells. I think it is this extra insulin that may be making you hungry. When I ate a higher carb diet, I was always hungry and craved more carbs as soon as I finished a meal. To combat this you have to eat higher protein and good fat. I try to eat almonds or cashews...

Need HELP

Welcome to DD Antoinette . Sorry to hear your husband is having such a hard time with his diabetic control. Sounds like he isn't facing this disease head on, and he needs to. What medications if any does he take? Does he see a professional about his diabetes? His blood sugars are running dangerously high and he must get that under control or he will just bring more health problems into the picture. If he saw what this disease did to his...

Sounds like you're having a great trip! I don't travel much but if I did I'd just try to eat the way I do when we go out to a local restaurant---lots of meat and veggies and salads. Hope your holiday is wonderful!

Anyone else feel this way?
Published (2009-11-26 04:34:00)
I try to have a different opinion of food lately since I am going on 10 months with my diagnosis. I don't think that my sometimes lack of energy is caused by what I am or am not eating but what I am doing. That way I avoid the tempation to eat something I shouldn't. Its not easy and I know people can give in easily so its not a perfect plan

Dr R Bernstein had a great call tonite. The man knows diabetes, thats clear. It was hard to miss his repeated comments about Glucophage being better than the generic (Metformin) He said his patients saw noticeably better results with Glucophage than the generic. I don't take this, but I know its the most widely used oral med for diabetes. Wondered if those who take it have ever heard of this? ...I had always thought generics were...

Good for you! It was my first Thanksgiving, too, and I was worried about "the meal." Turkey is okay - it's all the other delicious stuff that can sink our little boat, huh? Found a recipe online for sugar-free cranberries, and another for a low-carb pumpkin cheesecake. We swapped out the mashed potatoes this year for oven-baked wedges, so I was able to eat a couple. Couldn't sell the stuffing ...

I'm going to have some turkey, a small portion of stuffing, some low carb mashed potatoes that I'm bringing (haven't tried the recipe yet but it's a small amount of potatoes, with ricotta, cottage and a type of blue cheese I can't remember the name of), maybe a little bit of gravy to go on the stuffing and turkey and I'm bringing a d-pumpkin pie that I know will be a better choice for me then ...

The requirements for generics is that they can have up to a 20% variance compared to the branded formulations. Some have found different responses based upon the generic manufacturer from which their local pharmacy gets their supplies.

I couldn't find enough info that was newer, & easy enough for a layman to understand, to see what's going on with this these days. Sounds like it had to do with stimulating the pancreas to regenerate it's cells?

Are you eating enough fat and protein? Eating low carb is not compatible with the old low-fat mantras. You have to eat something!

With bg that high... i'm afraid insulin is the only and fastest way to bring down that bg to a safe level... running at 16 - 27 is too high and VERY dangerous...
I would seriously suggest that you get to a hospital or a doctor to get the bg down first... Insulin when used properly is very safe... yes a side effect of too much insulin is hypo but it can be easily corrected when you ...

Hi,
I have just been diagnosed as diabetic and have been reading some messages here. One of the things I read is that many have said stay of rice. I belive that is because of starch.
At my home, I am Indian, we cook rice by boiling it in water and then draining off the starch water. That way, the rice has very little starch left.
I would like to know if this is ok to eat or should I ...
