Quick serter problem
Published (2009-12-02 21:07:00)
I wonder what or how MM would address your most recent problem, esp. since you have a new serter. Ever think about just doing it manually? I have and it really isn't that bad. I got started trying it manually cuz I also switch sets and use the Sure-T's. You might like them yourself. They don't have a cannula, just a very short steel hollow needle. They were actually less painful that the quick-sets. Something to think about....

Hello Perry, welcome aboard! I don't understand how you can be Type 2 if you do not have insulin resistance. You seem to be aware of that though. Since you produce very little insulin it sounds so much like you are Type 1. Have you been diagnosed by an endocrinologist? I have been Type 1 for 64 years and I am very healthy. I have been pumping for 30 months. The pump has given me super control. By the way, there are other diabetics among...

So lost need help.
Published (2009-12-02 03:39:00)
Lady, my best advice is to take it one day and one meal at a time. Write down everything you eat and your BG levels. You will get a safe food list soon. These are your go to foods. Look for foods that give you the most bang for your buck. The most nutrition. Vegetables, lean meats, low fruits. No fillers like potatoes, pasta, etc. I am 10 months in and still figuring it out. It takes time but you can do it.

Hey Everyone!!!

Well welcome. I 6.5 is a good outcome for a Type 1. If you are worried or anything because you feel out of control with all this, then maybe you should start reading and learning more about diabetes. There is so much to learn and the more you know, the easier it all gets. Do you know exactly what kind of motivation you need? What kind of goals are you looking for?

I don't use a pump... however... I think i've read here before that some pumps are waterproof and some have even jumped into the pool with their pumps on... explore the insulin pump forum and hopefully you can get some answers there... if not... someone would come along soon to answer

Welcome to DD. Ya know, from time to time I've heard of people having issues with this. Once, I had the problem where the tape on the set stuck to the inside of the serter and messed up. I think mine problem was just user error. What's up for you now?

My dad has been taking Lantus ( in concert with Humalog) for years. He has always been able to use a bottle for nearly 3 months. Sometime last year (or at least that's when I found out about it), the 28-day expiration thing came into effect. Does anyone know what changed in the formulation that cut the potency in half??
Also, his cost went from $40/bottle (around $14/month) to $90/bottle for ...

Welcome to DD. I am also a Type 2. I currently take metformin and find it helps a lot with the glucose spikes, especially with the early morning DP spikes. Did you suffer acidosis from it? I am a competitive tennis player and usually will spike after 2 hours of play. My doctor told me not to worry about the exercise spikes since they do come down rather quickly and diabetics have to ...

Welcome Becky,
My 89 year old, legally blind day was just diagnosed type 2 last spring. My mom does his blood pricks. A lot of us have troulbe getting enough blood from our fingers especially in cold weather. Some meters have a different cap that you can use on your arm or hand. I also find after taking a bath or shower my blood seems to flow easier. I also rub my hands together to get ...

Welcome to DD Kira. On occasions, I have had that problem, but certainly not as consistant as you describe. There wouldn't be any chance that you got a bad box of infusion sets. Since you have used different sets, I'd doubt it tho. I does sound like scar tissue issues too. I did MDI in my stomach area for 21 years and when I went to the pump, my stomach was ok for a short time, and I then ...

What do you mean by under control? How low of an A1c do you want? How low of post prandial numbers? How low of fasting numbers?
I think you will have to define what you mean by under control a little more, because that leaves the door wide open for alot of people here.

I'm Katie, just thought i'd drop a line and say hi to everybody on here. Signed up today as I've never been part of a community like this before. Been t1 diabetic for nearly 18 years now at the grand old age of 20.

It could be restless leg syndrome, but that is usually more of a "restless" feeling than cramping (as the name implies). Could also be a problem with your electrolytes (sodium, potassium, magnesium, calcium are the main ones). If you are on certain BP meds, they can affect those particular things. Until you see your doc, you could try an OTC supplement of magnesium and/or calcium and see if that...

Hi! I was diagnosed Type 2 about 8 weeks ago. Since then I've been on Metformin (500mg 2x a day at first, 3x a day for the last 4 weeks). I've been eating low carb (I try to stay under 15 grams/meal) Rosedale-style diet (mod. protein/ mod good fats). I take every vitamin, mineral and supplement recommended by anyone for diabetes and exercise regularly (45 min. light aerobics/hand weights 5-6 ...

Glade to see that you have positive thinking. This is very important. You are doing whet you can even taking care of your eyes in order to avoid complication. From my point of view, this is very good.
