I have a Canon HV20 MiniDV Camcorder and when i connect via firewire it seems to pick it up (found hardware bubbles in XP) but when i go to My Computer to see the device its not there. I check device manager and IEEE 1394 Bus host controllers are working fine. Anyone have any ideas?

I think what he meant was to load remote desktop, go to options and under local resources (remote computer sounds) select disable or do not play sound.

Does anyone know a free version of a compression utility that will allow me to open .sit files in Windows? Technically I can continue to use StuffIT after the 30-day evaluation period, but I have to wait 10 seconds each time (annoying). I tried alladen express (or something like that) and it seems to direct me to a bunch of warez sites whenever I try to d/load it.

I would add to Veamon's suggestions: 6b) if you don't have the money get Linux. (However like he said if you follow 1-5 you should not have any problems.)

Is there a way to write a batch file that enables a second monitor and moves it to the top? I have a laptop and every morning when I come into work I have to enable this in the settings because I used the laptop on it's own (with out the secondary monitor) overnight so I have to re-do the settings. Please let me know.

Hello n_n First, thank you for anyone reading this and I appreciate the help you will/about to give. I forgot exactly when this problem started but it never really bothered me before because it wasn't as frequent. Plus, it was easily fixed with a computer restart. Unfortunately, it's starting to get a bit tiring as the time passes. Well, whenever I play music on my ...

I had someone call me up saying that they have a 120GB HD which he was using on a Windows machine. He then used it on a Mac, but said he didn't safely remove the HD. Now when he plugs it into either machine, it asks to format and mentions it doesn't initialize properly. Is there any way to retrieve the data? There's about 111 GB used on the drive. Thanks.
