X-Rays..Any dentists explain...

I think x ray reliability depends on quality and the skill of the person interpreting them. In hospitals x rays are often reviewed by a multidisciplinary team before taking action. In dentistry just one person reviews and quite a bit is down to the skill of the dentist in looking at all aspects of the tooth. In my own experience one dentist will miss a crack another spots. So it is a bit hit and miss. For example I was told in 2002 that I...

Thanks, Dr. Hirst! I used a sensitivity treatment by Orajel, and the problem has almost completely resolved. I'm going in for a cleaning in a couple weeks, so I'll see if I can get an x-ray then too.

Need advice
Published (2009-11-27 20:39:00)
My sincere thanks to Sudzs and drhirst for their replies. The thought of having a bridge done and having two crowns done on the HEALTHY abutment teeth (plus the chances of root canals in those healthy teeth up the road) not to mention the cost of a bridge is blowing my mind! An implant is not feasible due to high cost (my dental insurance doesn't cover at all) and I don't want any titanium in my mouth. I'd rather take that money...

dry socket question #4,951 :)
Published (2009-11-23 20:56:00)
k. had lower molar extraction last tuesday. finally got back into the dentist today (monday) b/c of the severe pain. said it looked like dry socket and it was still pretty inflamed/irritated (i started antibiotics on friday night). she packed the socket with eugenol (no guaze, just looks like yellow paste) and i have to go back in tomorrow to see the dr that did the extraction so he can take a look. he may have to pack it again....

No more fillings
Published (2009-11-24 08:51:00)
Hi Ange, I can understand that you may feel that you are emotionally "done" with having fillings done since you had a lot of fillings done when you were younger. I will advise that if you haven't had a check up recently, to still have xrays taken and evaluated just to make sure that your current teeth and fillings are healthy. a tooth can get cavities in a new area from where the filling was done. so it is best to check...

in a bit of a pickle, please help!

Morning Annie! Again thankyou so much for the reply. Im going to gather a few numbers of dentists in the area and call round them and see how i feel on the phone to the staff. I shall write down a list of questions to ask, anything i should be asking in particular? Obviously the top question will be if they do sedation on the NHS. I was thinking of going to my gp and getting oral sedation too. What is a community dental service? Do you think...

Am I getting an absess?
Published (2009-11-27 22:52:00)
I had a lot of work done on my upper teeth 2 weeks ago requiring pain meds for about 10 days after. My left front tooth which has never had a cavity or root canal was especially throbbing, it was longer than my right front tooth and it looks like the dentist really grinded it down to get the two to be even and then fused them together temporarily to eliminate a gap. The lateral incisor next to it was extracted and I had a frenectomy at the...

Your dentist sounds rubbish because nobody has a gap caused by the movement of the tongue during swallowing. Also a dentist who let a dental assistant cement your crown? That sounds totally unprofessional. Crowns should not gap unless youve specifically requested a gap. I would get a second opinion from someone reputable and tell them what you have told us. There is no way I would let ...

maybe you should do a diary of when it happens and what you were thinking & doing just beforehand. If something only hurts when you start thinking about it then it could be psychological.

I think they can try to bleach the underlying tooth to see if that makes a difference but in general they need to replace.

Hi: To answer your questions. The dose strength of Ativan (lorazepam) is labeled by each manufacturer. The markings on each pill tell the dose and manufacturer. If you have the info I can tell you the dose. The liquid you will be given is usually Versed (Midazolam). Usually in an orange flavored drink. That combination of medications will cause high levels of relaxation and sedation. ...

that sounds like muscular/ligament type pain so more likely the TMJ, but you should get it checked if there are twinges too. In my experience a dying nerve & infection is a weird tingly type local pain radiating upwards or downwards from the tooth root itself, and is not relieved by massage. It's only if advanced that it will go as far as the ear, but youd have warning next to the tooth ...

I mentioned this one to someone not too far from your neck of the woods and she was happy enough with them. They impressed me because they offer acupuncture as an alternative to numbing. http://www.dianadental.co.uk/info-st...ist-stoke.h tml

I was getting so aggrevated by the ache last night I took some Ibuprofen for the inflamation, half a valium to relax the muscle and massaged the hell out of the area. (also had a few beers to lift the mood!!) I've no idea if I did the right thing but this morning the ache is much much improved. But when I poke the area it is quite sore. Did I overdo the the massage?? Anyway, I'm doing my ...

Hi Service, I didn't want a flipper either, my dentist had 2 planned, one for an extracted top front tooth he was going to pull with 2 other teeth attached to make up for old lost teeth towards the back and one for a new bottom 1st molar extraction. I've had the 2 gaps for a long time, and the bottom tooth was just roots. Eventually I will be having 3 implants for the 1st molars and a ...

Im no expert, but f I remember rightly metronizadole only makes you sick if you mix it with alcohol. I wouldnt worry too much about the pus but I would try to get it fixed sooner rather than later. See if your dentist can arrange a payment plan maybe.

i had a long appointment on tuesday. the final thing done was an extraction on a lower molar (the one in front of the last one-don't know the number!) it took almost 2 hours to extract the tooth-it was badly decayed. the bleeding didn't last long and i was prescribed ibuprofen 800 mg and tylenol with codeine. i took them tuesday night and wednesday, but they made me so drowsy and heavy ...

Hi Trish, It is most unlikely that there will be rapid movement of the adjacent teeth. Indeed it is more likely that there will be no movement at all. The fact that your gums are healthy is a plus. However, what is more important is the way your teeth come together, if you have what dentists might call an "unstable bite" then movement may occur. I would say over 90% of cases like yours do not...
