Once the winner of a monthly contest is determined, the winner hosts the next month's contest. He/she starts by asking the forum participants for suggestions for a theme. Then he makes a poll with the suggestions, and we vote, and the theme is determined. After that we have a week plus to go shoot our pictures, and decide on our entry. I do wish I had gotten that shot earlier. But I guess I can save it for next year if I don't get something I like more later. As for the cross, I like the way it turned out as well. I definitely wanted to keep the yellow from being overpowering.

my diptych, I would not divide the picture plane exactly in half. maybe make it less symetrical like 2/3 - 1/3 but not even that exactly. I like the contrast in the images and the mystery the piece evokes. works well in black and white.

I keep my camera zipped inside my coat until I'm ready to shoot. I also carry a plastic bag with me so that I can put the camera inside it before coming into a warm place. Otherwise ice will build up on the lens. This was a big issue in Nome last winter where the temperature only got above 0 a couple of times. but that's just me. What's interesting to me about this theme is that it builds bridges in the viewers' minds to music, even with the stipulation that the photo need only share a title with a song. That photo really speaks to me -subject matter, and the execution with the gorgeous colors and stones. I also like the crop a lot. There is so much to admire in this photo: feeling of cold with the pavement and lighting; the breeziness of Autumn; the very appealing swirl of color from leaves, having run their lifespan, going out with a splash of color. A wonderful shot!
