Help!
Published (2009-11-14 07:24:00)
Hi, rmarco47: The C drive is normally your system drive, and the recovery drive is normally D. You must have reinstalled, since yours are reversed. Your recovery drive (C) should NOT be used for regular backups, only for the original Dell recovery image. So you need to set up the Vista recovery utility to use a different drive.  To reclaim the space on your C drive, see this thread . To learn more about how to use this...

Neil,   If you want, you can click on my blinking PudgyOne and it will take you to ImageShack. You and upload the image there, then copy and paste the direct link back here so I can see your images.   I'm pretty sure you didn't install the firmware as my suspicions are that it makes the printer beep and non responsive. Please do not try flashing the firmware. I am currently working with some people from Dell trying...

Why Delete my Post?
Published (2009-11-12 21:22:00)
In your first post in this thread, you asked if anyone from Dell had looked in to your case. I would guess not for two reasons. First, this is a user to user forum, not an official way to contact Dell. Second, the forum has automated filters, so it is possible the post was deleted without actually being read. Here is a link to the TOS to help you out with other questions you may have. One thing clearly not allowed is the posting of Dell...

You are confusing hard drives with memory. Memory chips have no volume or locations. C is your hard drive, not your memory. Increasing your memory does not improve your storage capacity. You need to install a larger hard drive for that. Alternately, you can install a second hard drive to increase your storage capacity. Memory is Random Access Memory that your computer uses to perform tasks.

What operating system?  Most of the Inspirons shipped in the last five years have had a feature called PC Restore (for Windows XP), and something else for Vista.  If you have XP, restart the machine and see if you get a blue bar with Dell's name in it at the top of the screen immediately following completion of self test.  If you do, you should be able to return the computer to factory delivered condition by...

My Order Delayed by one month
Published (2009-11-10 18:14:00)
I have long respected Dell.  I and family members have Dell computers and have been pleased with the products and with our interactions with Dell in the past.  I really do hope some of the Dell executives are reading these forums to understand the issues we are or have experienced.  It's really sad.  We all benefit when we have a number of good companies competing and to see a good company give these...

If what you're saying is that the BIOS update started, crashed but didn't finish, and you're left with a system that won't boot up, you need a replacement mainboard, assuming this is a notebook (it's not clear from the model number that it is, since I don't think there is an Inspiron 5315).

Updating anything - just because there's a newer version, isn't always the best option. Try going back to the previous BIOS version again, to check everything still works as it should using it ? If it does, I'd stick with it... unless the newer BIOS offers something you absolutely can't do without?

However, this doesn't seem to work for everyone. Another possible way is to create a post on the ...

You must have made the same mistake as the other users that complain about this. You were not supposed to add to or change or use partition D at all. It is a part of your hard drive that contained the disk image for a factory restore. Now that you have used it for backup or whatever, it's useless. It is not a separate disk, just a separate partition on disk C. Dell never installed anything over ...
