Internet use is intermittent...

belizabeth4: C) It appears that one of the most helpful fixes, is to run a straight install of Windows 7 and get rid of the Dell add-ins. I think I might agree with that train of thought, afterall my RC code worked, my Win7 install is faulty. I didn't get my RC from Dell, but that's where my actual product upgrade came from. I'm going to try installing a non-OEM copy of Windows 7 I'll let you know how...

Is it connecting at that speed? Or is that the speed that you are actually receiving when you visit websites or run speedtests? What Operating System do you have? What driver version are you using?

more than likely your pc is infected, even if you have ant-virus software. for some strange reason there is not one AV program that removes all viruse. spyware and trojans. do a control alt delete , click task manager\performance ..w/o any programs running at a steady state your pc should be around 0-3 or 4% ..sometimes AV programs that scan in the background can bump it up slightly. My guess is you are up around 40% or higher.

I am responding on my pc - I wasn't sure if that would ever happen again. I've installed almost everything you mentioned except the audio driver. I don't know if I need anything else. I've got a lot more to do - reinstalling my printer and such and restoring my documents and pictures. Thanks for everything. If I run into a problem I'll post it. Thanks again.

Did you try closing and reopening IE? You should download Firefox and/or Google's Chrome and try them. They are both faster and safer than IE8.

You might try uninstalling the network adapter (wireless or LAN) and letting it redetect and reinstall drivers for you. Since line in is OK and other machine works well, it could be the Ethernet adapter causing the glitch (or wireless adpater if that is what you are using).

Have you connected a bluetooth device? Not all computers have bluetooth capability, but if yours does, you must connect a bt enabled device to configure it. You also need to say what operating system you have.

You will need to download at least the following using another computer, and put them on a flash drive or CD/DVD disc:
The Dell notebook system software
The chipset driver
The driver for your wireless card.
Install in that order, and then connect to the Internet to download all the other drivers and do all Windows critical updates.

Remove the keyboard and visually check to see which card is installed.

Hello,
You don't tell us your system model, or version of Windows ...
But, run MSCONFIG and look for a Dell entry in the startup programs.
Let us know what you find.

Welcome to the forums Tim
I personally don't like using any other download manager (hereafter DM), than my preferred one (GetRight Pro), so for any downloads off the Dell website, I opt for the 'download in web browser' option.
I don't know where Dell's DM installs to in XP Pro unfortunately? Have you checked C:\ and Program Files, to see if there's a new folder - i.e. 'Dell'?...

Hello,
Your issue should have nothing to do with Windows 7.
You 'should' be able to connect a cable from your modem straight to your system and connect. I suggest that once you connect your modem, power cycle the modem, and then restart your system.

You need to include some basics ;)
Operating System
Wireless card model (or at least the manufacturer)
What handles the wireless management? Windows or software that came with your wireless card?

I’ve been wrestling with this same problem for several days and finally found a solution that works for me. The redirect can be repaired by going to http://dell.my.msn.com . Just going to this page seems to reset the redirect of the msn.com home page to http://dell.msn.com .
I still have no answer to how to get rid of the redirect altogether, but at least I don’t get the ...

try powering off the router, wait a few then power back on.... if that does not work try resetting the router. That involves a small button you hold in..takes the router back to default settings so all settings will be lost, though it starts the router as the first day you gotit. You probably want to look in your manual for the proper way to reset. You may have interference from another source....

Hi!
1. Yes, but not with a standard usb cable. I would buy something called an Easylink USB cable that comes with software (I think windows vista and 7 have software as well built in), that would allow you to connect the two computers and transfer files
2. Generally a USB Easylink or Fastlink type situation would be easier. I've tried connecting 2 computers through a simple hub ...
