Dell CD XP Home SP2 p/n h8527
Published (2009-11-24 15:00:00)
NigelR1000, Thank you for contacting the Dell Community Forums.  The disc labeled "Dell Reinstallation CD XP Home SP2" contains a version of Windows XP Home SP2 which is for all intents and purposes identical to the version found on a retail CD.  The only difference is the Dell CD is designed to work on systems with a Dell BIOS, while a retail CD will work on any computer, provided you have a valid product...

Welcome to the forums     I agree with the above advice. An inability to get past F8, is usually caused by the keypress not being recognised? Wireless keyboards are the main reason for this, because wireless devices aren't recognised, until after drivers are installed. The only way around it (as suggested), is to use a wired keyboard for the initial setup.  Once the OS and drivers are installed, you can then...

chels15: I think what winds me up most is receiving the Dell card with my pc directing me to support.dell.com/pcrt suggesting I can obtain a copy of OS cd from there when in fact as i'm in the UK that site appears to be of no use to me.  Surely Dell should supply this card with relevant information for the country of purchase. No pun intended, but the card supplied with computer purchase is best card to play in your...

Ricohoc,   You already have the operating system on your computer, correct? If so, I'd consider making a slipstream disk using nLite . You can include the hotfixes that Microsoft already loaded on your system and you'll have less time updating the computer with Windows Updates.   I would also add the drivers that are on your computer already. Download   Wndrvrbckup Backup Utilities and...

The page works best with IE, so don't change that. What you might need to change is the popup blocker. Disable it and see if it works now.

Windows 7 Upgrade and Partitions
Published (2009-11-22 15:04:00)
Hi gups, You can't do an upgrade from XP to Win 7. However, I think that the disc dell supplied you is an full Win 7 Pro disc, hence an clean install. What you can do is to go into Control Panel, Disc management, then create another partition, then install win 7 Pro there, and duel boot. Or put another drive in, and install Win 7 Pro there, and duel boot from there.

kvargiam, Thank you for contacting the Dell Community Forum. I have not heard if Dell is planning to release Windows 7 drivers for the XPS M1530. If you are planning to upgrade to Windows 7, I would suggest trying Vista drivers first. Those have been shown to work on most of our systems thus far.

It doesn't appear that your system uses DSS, so don't worry about it. Once you have XP reinstalled, install the Chipset software first and then continue installing the rest of the drivers in the order suggested.

Your Idea is not a bad one, but lets check to see if you have a factory restore partition first, this will make things much easier than manually reinstalling XP. What model of Dell is it? .

John60048, Thank you for contacting the Dell Community Forums. If you tried uninstalling the Upgrade Assistant from the Control Panel but are still getting pop-up messages from it, it'll probably take a registry hack completely to remove it.
