If so, don't skip the 3-year AppleCare add-on - - the Macbooks have had their share of problems as well (including the faulty nVidia chips and mainboard failures).

Yes, same for me. Some testing screen can't be understood without reference... Technical Assistance didn't provide any link to check Test results so No one can be sure at 100%. Well, my computer is finally dying. Yesterday I had it working again. I've just tried to load the same old drivers. Rebooted and it worked. This morning the problem was there again. And moreover.... A really nice BLUE SCREEN!! A...

bipo: I'd like to know how much it would costs these things: new battery (9 cells) new video card to replace the 8800M GTX new motherboard (if the problem is related to this instead of VideoCard) Sadly... whilst a replacement battery should be within the budget of most (here in the UK, they're available from £45) , (assuming you can find them for sale in the first place?) a new motherboard won't...

Yes, it works great. We have both D620's and D630 running two monitors using the port replicator. One runs off DVI and the other VGA. Right now mine is running one monitor at 1920x1080 on DVI and the other is running at 1680x1050 on VGA.

My Nvidia 8800 GTX SLi passes all the diagnostics to, but it's still broken, I'm not 100% sure what the diagnostics check, but what ever it was it didn't see the fault with my card, and there is definately an issue.

The video card is capable of 1920x1080, but the LCD panel most likely is not. Dell sold various options for the monitor when that laptop shipped, and 1400x800 sounds like one of their widescreen options. Are you attempting a higher resolution on an external monitor or the LCD panel that is on the laptop?

Published (2009-11-25 06:00:00)
I used the 32bit Windows 7 as it was a free (well had to pay for the shipping) upgrade from Dell when i purchased the laptop. Plus drivers from Vista 32bit mostly work in windows 7 32bit so if you have anything else connected to your computer thats maybe a few years old you can sometimes use the Vista drivers if there are no Windows 7 ones available, not so easy if you need to find a vista 64bit driver. Its a shame that principles seem to...

Hello, After looking into this in great depth, I've found this here under registry (run regedit to change it) HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\NVIDIA Corporation\Global\Hybrid HidePowerSetting 0x00000001 which gives you a vaule of 1. I set it to a value of 0 (0x00000000), restart the system and it's now working. Stephen

Try this,Control Panel>Power Options>Left side of panel"Adjust the Display Brightness" click on it>You will now see 3 options, use the last option on this screen and move the slider all the way to the right for full brightness(both sliders). Now when the battery is removed the screen should stay bright.

Yes I also am having the same problem when I have the Windows Aero display on. If you put the non-aero display on you should not have this problem.
I have a Dell Studio 1737 by the way. Also downloaded the video driver from Intel, I have Mobile Intel 4 Series Express Chipset, Version 8.15.10.1986
with a date of 10/30/2009. So you are not alone here and I believe others are in the same...

The 7900 and 7950 cards are still available - all will be used/refurbished and expect a price of $450-500 or more for the 7950GTX.

Hi,
I also have a new XPS M1730 and I'm having the same problem.
When I boot up using the battery power then I see the BIOS just fine and as soon as Windows is starting the screen goes black. If I then restart the laptop using AC power the screen stays black when Windows is starting.
I did the same as you this morning by trying Safe Mode and indeed it works.
So apperently it's a...

Attach an external monitor. If the lines show there, the video chip or card is faulty. Replace the video card, if there is one, or the mainboard if the video is not on a separate card.
If they do not, replace the display panel.

Yes, the video card has failed. I wouldn't bother buying another nVidia card - they're all a few years old now and whatever you buy will simply fail again in a few days, weeks or months - and come with only a 90-day warranty.
The ATI X1400 card for these models is reliable and costs less than the nVidia options - figure on $200-250US for one. You can find them from parts-people.com, ...

Here is the problem I have with my Dell Inspiron 6000. My LCD screen needed replacement. I changed the LCD screen and when I powered on, I saw the screen is splited up as 4 screens ( 4 quadrants). This happens right from the system start up.
I ran the diagnostic test and it returns that LCD connection error and returns error as 1000-0321.
I do not know what could be the ...

Do a Google search for 'VGA to s-video converter' and for ' VGA to HDMI converter' and you'll see what your real options are.

It's unlikely they will offer a new system - particularly if they haven't attempted a repair first. Have they replaced the mainboard yet?

Use the official Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor - rather then Dell's, and see what it says/advises?
But... assuming you're currently using Vista... the Vista drivers should work for any components which Windows 7 doesn't auto-install drivers for (they have for most of us)?

I am having the exact same problem and it is ridiculous to have a problem like this in a computer of the caliber that ours is supposed to be. Everyone told me not to get a Dell and I ignored them and did anyways. I may have to admit that they were right and wish I hadnt. If this isnt fixed somehow, I will never buy another Dell and everyone who ever asks me what I think of them will hear the ...
