functions of the keyboard keys
Published (2009-11-24 13:57:00)
Welcome to the forums   Wellmann:   Where do I find information about the functions of the keyboard keys? Strangely enough not in the manual.   I assume you're referring to a written user manual you received with the laptop? The online manual for your laptop (it's a PDF, so you need a capable PDF reader installed - i.e. Adobe Acrobat)), includes diagrams (at the start of Chapter 7) which might help

Inspiron 1100 will not boot
Published (2009-11-23 10:28:00)
ejn63, thank you for your help!  This is a replacement drive.  The original drive failed last December and I bought a replacement drive from Dell.  I don't recall all the drama surrounding the display last year.   The laptop is rarely used as I have a 1525 with Vista that I use on a daily basis. I keep the 1100 because it has XP and I was not able to find a Vista driver for...

1-TB RAID 0 on XPS M2010
Published (2009-11-23 04:44:00)
Just to let you know I have reinstalled windows 7 on the XPS M2010 and am happy to say it seems Microsft have been working hard to release new drivers since the launch date.  Don't know what DELL are doing- if anything at all- but the siutation has improved. I walked through a clean install slowly by installing the system first, then usual virus stuff, then Office 2007, so I could start taking screen shots and drop these into a...

Dorugamon,   Read THIS THREAD .   Install the Media Direct, if you have it, then the operating system disk. Then make sure you have these drivers on a disk before you install the system. It should go pretty smooth.     The Desktop/Notebook Utility needs to be installed first(if applicable), then the chipset drivers. If they are NOT installed first, then the rest of the drivers will fail to install....

Thanks ejn63, But I'm only showing 109GB available on a 120GB hard drive. If the MediaDirect partition is only using 2.50GB (instead of 5GB, like I thought) Then why is my drive still missing 7GB... Is the Recycle Bin hogging the rest? Or does the Filesystem really need that much. What is MediaDirect used for? Just for playing DVDs without booting to Vista?

The system uses a mobile Turion on Socket S2 - there were a couple of faster ones that should work, if you can still find one for sale.

Yours is the first post I have seen on this issue. IF you are still under warranty you should be in contact with Dell support. In the mean time you should get a new battery and see if that does solve the issue for the time being.

First thing to check are the cables that run between the mainboard and display panel and mainboard and inverter. REseat both. If the problem continues, you'll need an LCD repair shop to repair the backlight. http://support.dell.com/support/edocs/systems/ins7 00m/en/SM/index.htm

Whilst I can understand your frustration ( honestly I can - because there are no Windows 7 drivers available for my XPS M1730 laptop either ), do you actually need Windows 7 drivers - i.e. are you seeing driver problems in Device Manager, that Vista drivers don't solve? I ask, because I had one or two initially myself, but the Vista drivers took care of them. Or are you simply ...

Now after disconnecting everything from your laptop press the power button for 20 to 30 seconds. Completing this reconnect your battery and AC adapter and try to turn on your laptop. When you ...

Remove the dead battery and try using just the adapter, plugged into a known good outlet. If it works that way, use it like that until it dies. It's not worth spending anything on an old laptop, not with new laptops/netbooks selling for such low prices now.

From my dell Experience. If your computer is working, Don't do anything too it, because if you do, It will NEVER work right again. I have an XPS studio 16. Dell Forgot to Load EVERYTHING that I paid for, and now they are telling me that it isn't covered and they will not give it to me, because I didn't pay for it. it came with the computer for free, so I need to pay for a new one if i...

There is, but the quick restore comes well before login. If XP, press CTRL-F11 once at the Dell screen. If Vista, press F8 before Windows begins loading and choose Repair, then Restore from the menu. Neither one requires a login.

Windows Vista should sort it automatically, but it might be worth checking in the BIOS to see what mode the hard drive is set to - i.e. SATA or AHCI? Whichever one it's set to, try the other?

For all issues before 21 days have elapsed since you received the laptop, you should immediately call Dell Support and have your issue resolved. In your case you may want the touch fascia replaced and/or the PCB under it replaced.   This is the time period for which you may return your laptop for ANY reason for a full refund; don't settle for anything less than a fully functional product!
