The original post was pretty confusing in a couple of different ways, but the poster seems to be using a headset even though he later used the term "headphones". Because he is using Magic Jack I assume it is a headset. Headsets typically have both headphones and a microphone and they use...

What model PC do you have? I looked at the SB Xfi MB software on one Dell model and it listed it was compatible with both Vista 32 and 64 bit. If you have a model that Dell is NOT supporting 64 bit in, that may be the problem as the SB Xfi MB software specifically for that model may not be 64 bit compatible, but you MAY be able to use the Xfi MB application from a different model.

You say you are using the PATCH? Is that the one from the Drivers and Download page? If you answer yes then I know the problem. That is only a patch and not the full program. You should have a CD labeled Creative Soundblaster X-Fi MB that you need to install from, then once that is installed you can install the patch. So the correct order to get your sound done is: 1) Install sound driver, 2) Install Soundblaster from CD in Vista...

Welcome to the forums I can't be sure of course, but if you sign into the Dell website - using whatever details you used when you made your original purchase, before you add a new product to your basket, you may be able to use the same credit details? If that doesn't work - although I can understand your preference for speaking to someone via telephone, there are a couple of other ways to contact...

Hello Jim, Everything went smoothly in uninstallation and reinstallation of sygmatel different drivers. But still could not see and use the "Record what you hear" option in the mixer. So I went back to original sigmatel driver and am pursuing my recording by physically connecting the headphone out and mic line in. Thank you very much for your help along this operation and very best regards.

deepspace: Bridgette77: Did you run a latency checker on it, before you installed the souncard? It might be the soundcard. Basically, all of the laptops being discussed here have had problems, from the start. At least mine did. If the problems started after the new soundcard, then probably, the soundcard is the cause. i said "again".. go back and read all the previous posts....

Audio Driver OK,but no sound

Sound comes from your sound card--integrated or separate--not your internal speaker. Are your headphones plugged in correctly and working? Try them on another device or add external speakers.

There are several small Phillips screws on the outer edges of the drive that need to be removed. Once that's done, it connects to the drive mechanism with a ribbon cable. You can also still find pre-assembled drives for these older Compal-built Dells: http://www.buy.com/retail/product.asp?sku=211203434&listingid=44876370

Problem with Sigmatel Audio...
Published (2009-11-19 07:01:00)
Hello, M1530 has two mics. One with the audio card, other with the webcam. In control panel under "hardware and sound" there must be a setting for "manage audio device". See if your sigmatel mic has a green check mark on it. If not then manually disable your built-in mic array and enable your sigmatel mic. Hope this helps.....

Use another computer to download the driver. Copy to USB flash drive. Take over to the D600. Install.

I have found in this forum a post that says that the monitor have a small button above the power button. I thought it was only light that were displaying some status... Ok now I feel stupid!!! ;)
So I'm able to tell my monitor wich input source I'm using ( DVI-1 ). But my monitor doesn't seem to see my laptop. Even if I try to select the new monitor or Extend my Window desktop in the display...

It has neither optical nor coax spdif. The 3 audio jack directly support 5.1 audio. The digital conversion takes place in the computer so the jacks are analog.

Try asking this question in the following forum. Has anyone taken delivery of the New Studio 1557? Several people have also received theirs and may have an answer.

Windows 7 has in-built support for biometric devices. Go to control panel- hardware and sound - biometric devices and enroll your fingerprint. Next time you restart your laptop, it will ask for your fingerprint.

I doubt that that laptop has the ability of booting from USB. My Dimension 4100 which is also of that era does not have that option. Look in your BIOS, see if boot from USB is an option.
You will need to replace the malfunction CDROM drive with another drive.

You need to select "stereo mix" as the recording source, but because the Vista Sigmatel driver does not have it you must use the XP version.
1. Delete the Vista driver. (Uninstall and choose the option to delete the files.) 2. Download the Sigmatel R171789 audio driver. This is an XP driver with stereo mix. 3. Unzip the folder but cancel the installation. 4. Go to the expanded ...

You need to right click on the setup file on the CD and run it in Vista compatability and it should work.

I too am extremely frustrated and upset with my Dell Studio 1537 laptop. I bought it specifically for music production, only to find it was a complete waste of money
Model: 1537
Mem: 4GB
Net: Intel Wifi 5100
GFX: ATI Radeon Mobility HD 3450 256MB
BIOS: A09
I have tried installing and testing it with Windows XP, Windows Vista Ultimate 32bit and Windows 7 RC 32bit to no avail....

Good post!
I'm having the exact same problem. I also bought my Dell Studio 1537 specifically for music production and I was so *** off when I found out it was completely useless for this task.
I've been researching the problem on the web and I have also been collecting a list of sources of info that I will use when I report my problem to Dell Support.
That is very positive news ...

The suggestion to update Sigmatel is way off, because HDMI audio is a function of the graphics card driver -- it contains the HDMI audio driver; the Sigmatel driver does not. We are still gathering information about enabling HDMI audio and there is a lot that we don't know, but here is what we know so far.

Yes, it must be installed in the Compatibility mode. I suggested that recently two users that were having problems and both reported that they got it installed.
HERE is the Laptop Audio Section thread about this with my fix checked as the accepted solution.

I am having the same problem mate!
Got my studio XPS 13 yesterday after I ordered on the 18th, gotta say I loved it until the sound problems. I first though its cheap speakers, but when I plugin my headphones it DOESNT go away, so there is certainly some software issue here / conflict.
Now I am debating returning it and getting a plane old XPS and wait six months or so for this model when ...
