time-length on proposals?
Published (2009-12-31 12:01:00)
Capital One was the only card I had that didn't accept the first proposal. A second proposal was sent for an extra $1 and they accepted immediately after that. Seems silly to go through that for $1. I was also behind 1 payment and they took that off after the 2nd payment. Hope this helps!

In your situation, this program may only hinder your credit. Since you are caught up and your apr is at such a low rate. This program primarily works for people who are struggling to make payments, and the lower payments out weigh the monthly fee that is charged. Me personally, joining the program is saving me roughly $400 a month so the $40 I pay a month to them for aiding me is no big deal. Just a thought and you probably have...

Your credit score will likely take a hit anyhow if you do end up transferring money from one card to the others... that lowers your score.

If you want to get your debt paid, you are not going to be able to just pay minimum on your accounts even with the low interest rates. I would assume that CareOne will either be able to negotiate even lower interest or will have to raise some of your minimum payments in order to get you a date of pay-off within 5 years. I would imagine that your goal is to get paid off and not stay where you...

Discover Card
Published (2009-12-27 14:10:00)
After reading many posts about how horrible experiences were with tackling Discover and lowering the interest rates, I was quite skeptical with adding them to the program. However, they accepted my request into the program. And they cut my interest rates from 17% down to 7%!!!! I cannot believe it!!! Wooohooo!!!!

Although I have yet to have Care one assist me in my debt,I also am current on all my debt but want to pay it off desperatley. I have realized why this works. You say you only pay the minimum each month,,, even when the minimum amount due reduces each month. For example ...Last year at this time your min due was $225 and this year it's $175. If you continued to pay the 225 through the entire year it obviously would get paid off...

Discover Card
Published (2009-12-29 02:47:00)
I have two Discover cards (one for me, and one for my wife). I also read about the difficulties some had with Discover, but both of my accounts were accepted without any trouble. I had also read that Citibank was very difficult...they did request a slightly higher payment ($5 per month), but after the proposal was resent, all was well there too. The account that took the longest for me was a JCPenny...

Good morning and thank you for posting in the Community. I am sorry to hear one of your creditors has escalated their collection activities in such an aggressive way. Unfortunately things like this can happen when someone has retained Persels & Associates for the purposes of debt representation because the accounts must become delinquent in order for a creditor to entertain the thought of a settlement. You certainly did the right...

However, I am a union teacher in the City and decided with the loan office if I take one more year to pay my credit card, i will have a great down payment and a higher score. She told me once I pay off my debt I will ...

I have been on this program for about 2 years and the creditors usually receive the payment 10-14 days after it is sent. It feels like a long time when you are watching your finances, but it doesn't seem to affect anything negatively.

I am under the DMP but considering the Debt Settlement. Does anyone have any advice? I don't mind the phone calls but I have to admit I am afraid they will try and take my house or whatever else I have in order to pay this debt off. I read the post about the lady who had a very negative experiencewith the DS and so I was wondering if anyone else has any thoughts on it.
Thanks

The program typically works for most people by reducing interested rates, waiving late fees, and eliminating over limit fees. If you are on time, have low interest rate, and not over your limit, it would surprise me if the program would work for you.
If you give the company a call, they can evaluate the expected savings versus the fee. They will be truthful with you so you can make an ...
