As I said, that is sometimes the case, but sometimes not. Often times when you hear a open source software person preaching they make it sound like JUST because it is open source it is better, no matter what, and ONLY because it is proprietary it is worse....

My first post was a perfectly valid two line comment. I wasn't trying to criticise you or say anything bad about your choice. I own a Nokia device which runs a Debian based OS so my comment was based on some personal experience. But you went batshit nutso...

You know what I think? This whole thing is stupid. Gnome started out with the GNU ideas in mind, and now they want to fork? Why can't they all quit fucking whining over petty things, get over themselves, and continue to work on quality software? There are enough DE's: KDE, GNOME, Xfce, LXDE, etc....We don't need a fucking fork of a major DE. I don't like GNOME anyway, but this still boggles my mind...I just can't see...

the question is: where do you draw the line: is it ok to use a free OS, but add flashplayer non-free and VirtualBox-PUEL? like i do, btw, and i also activated the non-free sources. With the according horse-power between keyboard and chair i would change that. or is it ok to use Windows or Mac, but only add free software? as pointed out before (by others): the only purpose of the GNU project is to "promote" free software,......

Sorry about this. I'll put a stop to them myself. I never meant to cause any upset or trouble. I think it was just a bit of fun which got out of hand.

Well, that's a suggestion it's not even clear that it will get enough traction to be put to vote. Also it's probably not a disaster, forks are good, let the best one win. Also there are enough DE: KDE, LXDE, XFCE, so I won't worry even if GNOME disappears...

The real irony is in a system built on free software which tries to forbid the user from controlling it. I suppose that if you consider the user to be the manufacturer or vendor or network provider and the consumer to be merely an income/information stream then all is well.

Excellent. I approve of this project. I've recently been quite upset with GDM (especially since they decided to re-write everything and also stop providing a GUI tool for configuration, and documentation for the config files is hard to find.) BIG PENIS. Although I can't give much feedback, I'd like to encourage you on this. I think this is definitely a good idea.

Welcome to the Debian forums. It is an odd request for a Debian forum and will probably get moved to the Off Topic thread. There are users who are also Ubuntu users, but I can't say if you will get help here, but before anyone can help we need to know what you mean by your ubuntu install being compromised. Saying your Ubuntu Gnome blew up or Ubuntu is compromised is not useful information. By...
