If you're having issues getting it to boot from CD, do you have access to another Debian machine? I would try installing debootstrap on the other machine, mounting it from another
filesystem and using debootstrap to install a minimal installation onto the disk. Once the installation completes, you can chroot into the environment and install the rest of the packages that will make it necessary ...

Can you use a Live Linux CD? You can use
Knoppix or something similar.

it would be better if you could assign a
static IP address but since you will need to install SAMBA it will probably work most of the time.

I forgot to say, I repaired my
partition table after installation of Lenny using the partitioning tool from ReFit-bootloader which uses gptsync.
