I think the fact that I can't access the site in a Linux browser but can in a windows browser is probably conclusive. I still could have two different problems however. I tried the yet third attempt at syntax modification of the sources.list file and got the same thing. I could be wrong, but it looks unlikely to be a syntax problem

It's variables exported into bash, a kind of where to find the libraries, etc. Surely your GTK from the repos should be turned off and a different GTK (like mine, for example) turned on. That's how it works. You can enter these variable manually, if you want. At first try little GTK programs to...

Published (2009-12-03 08:12:00)
My system is set up with English as the system language but I and other users of the machine use various keyboard layouts within gnome. If a user does "lock screen", they have to type in their password again, and in this dialog they can click on the keyboard indicator to choose which keyboard layout to use when typing in the password. All good, everything works fine. But , in the main login screen (which looks very similar to...

Only some humour, no bad language required I actually can't make sense of some of the things you say. I know the definitions of the individual words but together they don't communicate a meaning, so I was poking fun at you. And also I enjoy your posts, they take me on a journey into a different kind of thinking of which I am incapable. I need to rip and encode to mkv container: encode to avi container. I need to crop: initially...

Offer it a fair wage and affordable medical benefits. Seriously, though. your title doesn't "say it all." Specifically, it doesn't say whether you're using Debian Lenny, Squeeze or Sid; or what doesn't work; or what you've tried to "make it work"; or what error messages you've gotten. Telling us that KDE "doesn't work" is like calling a car-repair garage and telling them your car doesn't work...

Vim , LaTeX Suite and Evince . LaTeX Suite is not a must but it has a couple of useful macros. If you're not a vim user, this may not be the best solution for you (since there's a learning curve to be passed before you become efficient with vim). If you are a vim user, you already do your LaTeX with it, so...

Hmmm, don't know about pulseaudio at all, but I know phonon seems to play better with gstreamer ( unfortunately ) and gstreamer is more GNOME isn't it? You should have all the gstreamer packages you need to use phonon-backend-gstreamer ( just make sure the depends include gstramer0.1-alsa, they are supposed to now ) and try that out once. It's not exactly what you are looking for, but it may ...

I had a similar problem once, where xorg would not properly detect the display and use a wrong resolution as well as wrong dpi values to render fonts... I also had to put a fixed configuration into xorg.conf to fix that. I agree that xorg docs can be difficult to find (scattered around unorganized fd.o wiki pages), but "man xorg.conf" or "man <driver-name>" ("intel" in my case) should be helpful....
