name change from scholars: mainly it was confusing with the work scholars. also, i never really liked the name scholars; now, it is champions. re matt. matt is working in thailand and it is too hard for him to be at the wndi. so, we are bringing on nate. nate has worked at the wndi for 3 years. he obviously has his talents (regularly top 20 speaker at national circuit tournaments and he is in the top 8 teams in the country currently). he is...

Jim: why did you change the name from Scholars to Champions? How come matt isn't running the lab anymore?

What are the general criteria you use when evaluating a potential Policy Champion, and also if I wait until March to enter my application (in order to encompass my results at tournaments such as berkely, gonzaga, and state) will that hurt my chances of getting in significantly? Finally should I even bother applying if I will be a sophmore transitioning into my junior year or, is the lab strictly seniors?

Applying I see that you can now apply for the 2010 camp online. Would it be better to submit my application now or wait until later? Also, can I apply now and then update it later with more recent results?

Some people had problems finding the link to the application so I updated the blog with a post regarding our early application procedure and a link to the application. It's the first post at georgetowndebateseminar.blogspot.com We have already had several applications (notification coming within 2 weeks for those people) so we encourage you to apply early. JP

More materials will be forthcoming within the week. It is best to apply now, because there is no application fee. The "wave" structure of admissions will be outlined by this Thursday, along with scholarship opportunities and a more detailed description of the curriculum.

Will you be offering any financial aid? I really would apply, as I am very much interested in the way you plan on running this camp, and am interested in attending Georgetown in general. However, recent changes in my financial situation have made finding a camp extremely difficult. I understand if you don't offer aid, as this is a new and obviously high-caliber camp.

The University of Michigan Classic as well as the Dartmouth Debate Institute are high-level four week camps that start in mid-July. I think the Classic starts around the 12th-13th this year, so you'd only miss a day or two.
