QUOTE (Throne777 @ Nov 20 2008, 10:26 AM) There is nothing logically wrong with the task. So no :P Well, it stands to reason that a task that requires an infinite number of steps can never be completed, therefore there is a pretty serious problem with postulating on what might happen after it's completion... QUOTE Also, the two little questions you posed only hold comparative universality, not strict universality. That...

Death in an inescapable punishment. It's a completely unnatural event not intended as normal and this is why human kind, aware of the unnatural state of existance rails against the idea of dying.

That's because Jesus Christ is the way, the truth and the life and you are convicted by the gospel. It makes you uncomfortable. The light shines in the darkness and exposes it. Joh 1:1 ¶ In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things were made through Him, and without Him nothing was made that was made. In Him was life, and the life was the light of men. And...

The great gamble in life

I'm sure it could happen again. Eventually, life as advanced or even superior to ours may exist again. Keeping religion out of the equation, why bother though? There's so much futility in all of it. I understand that day to day living can be pleasurable as we fulfill needs and desires. It's not very interesting to leave it at that. I'm fine accepting it as it is, if that's really all it is but regardless of that fact...

yep the world is still full of alot of stupid, in China they also destroy precious fossils that could tell us about the prehistoric past to make a dragon bone powder for medicine. in India a few years ago several people were murdered under suspision of being werewolves. In Saudi Arabia they will still execute people as witches.

Oh, wow. Cremation just was not done in old times is the conventional wisdom. To find evidence to the contrary is a major find. It changes our opinion of "primitive" religious beliefs. I'm waiting to find a Jewish cremation site. That'd rock the archaeological world.

hell, didnt they used to sell what they claimed to be the bones of saints? and I think I remember hearing an old spell for something that called for making a candle out of a murderers skeletized hand and lighting the wicks that were wrapped around the fingerbones to stop an uprising, or put people to sleep, or some kind of calming effect. people are strange.

I personally think you have hit the nail on the head as one would say. "If there's nothing except mostly randomness and evolution responsible for our existence and our knowledge and our technology, it seems rather meaningless still to me." If so, then why try to put meaning to something that has no meaning? Such an action would be like an obsessive insanity loop where justification meets futility. Indeed why do we exist...

QUOTE (Bright One @ Oct 27 2008, 10:50 PM) It's supposed to make you have crazy dreams. Something to do with digestive process, possibly release of chemicals. Indigestion is said to cause nightmares, because of impure blood supply to the brain maybe. Impure blood supply to brain.. lol :P

heck of a short version of that story. Wasn't there also an army of monkeys that threw rocks to form a bridge to Ravana's castle? I might be thinking of another story with Ravana though. and for others reading the story and want to visualize it, Ravana had seven heads.

The great gamble in life is death. There's guides to how to play the stock market. Everyone can work on a poker face for a game of cards. You can get books from the library about training dogs. We all have a reasonable expectation of the outcome of most things in life. Everyone knows that no matter how many people play the lottery, someone will eventually win. Not so with death....

What this reveals, according to research lead David Schloen, is that Kuttamuwa's people believed in a split between body and soul. This was a relatively novel belief at the time, and many neighboring peoples like the Israelites believed the body and soul were one. Kuttamuwa, however, planned for his soul to remain in the stele while his body was cremated. That's why he requested a "...

A six-year-old albino girl in Burundi has been found dead with her head and limbs removed, in the latest killing linked to ritual medicine. Albinos in the region have been targeted because of a belief peddled by witchdoctors that their body parts can be used for magic potions. http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/africa/7733597.stm Will civilizations thousands of years in the future look ...

Every now and again I'll post a new paradox for you all to solve. I'll post ones which have at least a half decent solution for them (though you have to work them out -some of them are completely solvable). You can't just say 'it's fallacious'; that much is obvious. You need to say at what point it is fallacious (i.e. reject one of the premises or the conclusion, or more ...

I found a book I got in highschool, Leyendas del Ecuador (Ecuador’s legends) by Edgar Allan García, and I thought I’d share some of the stories since there’s not much Latin folklore in here. If you like them I’ll start translating other stories from Peru, Venezuela, El Salvador, etc. Logically I’ll post the information I can find (author, book title, etc) I’ll try to post one per week...

I was reading this book from the 1940's I think its called (The history of Magic in England) or something like that. and I fully agree with its outlook on what magic is. Magic is any attempt to compel something or gain knowledge through the use of unseen forces or powers. and the books observation that everyone has at some point done this. We even observe old rituals of magic in ...

I took a nap for the first time in years today, and I'm horribly sorry I did. In my dream, I was standing in this big white hospital room. everything looked so sterile and clean, like it had never even been used before. and the only other thing in the room other than the clean white cabinets, was a young boy in a wheelchair. If I had to guess, I'd say he was maybe 6 or 7. but...

ARE YOU 100% SURE THAT IF YOU DIED TODAY THAT YOU WOULD GO TO HEAVEN? There are some things that you should know: 1. Realize that you are a sinner and in need of a Savior: Ro 3:23 "For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;" Ro 3:10 "As it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one:" This all began with the story of Adam and Eve in the garden of Eden. God ...
