Thanks John. How many review copies do you think the studios send out? I know that there are only a few major websites doing DVD reviews, but do a lot of magazines and newspapers and 'famous' critics get stuff too. I know it's variable and you probably couldn't know specifics, but i'm just curious as to your best guesses.

I didn't see those, but looking into it further yesterday I noticed the first review on Amazon, coincidentally posted the same day as the one here, said that too. I wonder if people are copying what other people are writing about the movie, or perhaps the book was different than the movie, or what? It's interesting that Theo, Manouche's cousin, did tell Orloff that Gu was going away with his sister. At least that's what...

I completely disagree; I love the new Fox sets that fit an entire season of a TV set into regular-sized jewel case. Shelf space is way more important to me at this point then some big unwieldy set that I only look at when I'm changing discs. And I'm more than happy to do away with foldout cases, which can be a pain to get the DVD's out of (Alien Quadrilogy being the worst).

I would rather put up more shelves and have something worth setting on them than sacrifice the packaging of some of my favorite shows. Sons of Anarchy looks so insignificant next to my other favorites, that have incredible boxes, like Lost, Battlestar Galactica, True Blood, and the Shield. I was hoping for something along the lines of the box sets for The Shield, both FX, very similar, I was wrong. But thats not the worst part. They cost the...

Of little interest, 3 of 8 reviews i scanned on IMDB also referred to Manouche as Gu's sister. Either there are some sleepy reviewers out there are something gets a bit lost in translation!

Watched this the other day and loved it. More later, but just wanted to make sure everyone knew that it can be bought for $8.50 at Barnes and Noble right now. See the B&N threads in the bargain forums here.

I'm also very surprised by the rating of GOOF, since that along with Income Tax Sappy are considered some of the best Shemp shorts (and obviously it's slim pickins for that era given the wealth of remakes).
I love the review though. I'm glad someone that reviews the A/V quality also enjoys the shorts as much as everyone else.

Within the next few days, I am going to cook up a brief contest for this one asking a few questions related to this movie. The prize will obviously be a DVD but I'll iron out the details when I've written up the questions (probably five or so). I really want people to see this great movie and the wonderful Jean Gabin.

What a coincidence.
I was watching it again for the Xth(get it?) time last night too.
The review is way off on the summary and the content as you already know.
What a classic, awesome film.
Yet another reason Jean Pierre Melville often pops to mind as my favorite director.
