Hi Yorac, I think I met you at the Wavetrain GTG in Sydney not so long ago... so I will take your questions as well meaning for all involved. Let me start by saying it will all be above board. I'm keen to get my own projector, and seeing if it is worth putting some effort into starting a group buy. There has been some negativity about having all the details up front, but it's 'Chicken & Egg' (ie. which comes...

Setting Up Theatre Room Projector
Published (2010-01-03 09:36:00)
QUOTE (bbar @ Jan 2 2010, 08:57 PM) Projector is fine though it is 4:3 native (16:9 switchable) and XGA native resolution (1024 X768). 2500 lumens so plenty bright enough. I believe it will accept 768P as input, if not you will be limited to 576i. Good enough as a starter for a HT room. Re screen, it will always be significantly better than a wall. Thanks for that. Is there a big difference between the type of screen you buy?...

QUOTE (burnitvic @ Jan 3 2010, 10:36 AM) Thanks for that. Is there a big difference between the type of screen you buy? What would you reccomend? Yes there is. I am selling my Scope screen to go for a 16:9 screen as I am now collecting Music videos which are in 16:9. Scope screen is great for movies but you lose some of the WOW when you zoom down to reduce height for a 16X9 encode. If you are primarily movies then Scope is...

And the winner is... JVC HD550 . I'll be picking it up tomorrow. Good times.. (after a pretty lousy year). Once again, I checked out these projectors today and the JVC's picture sharpness and overall quality with HD content closed the deal, looking at the others at the $5K mark it was worth paying a bit more and I'm sure I'll be very happy with the final setup.

Best Projector < $3000

QUOTE (Livingthedream @ Dec 23 2009, 11:38 AM) im in a similar boat for the new HT room. I have been eying of the following. Projector Point (ebay) package My mate had a TW3000 and it was pretty impressive so i am hoping in my dedicated room a TW3500 will do the job. I spent a bit more on my plasma which has reduced the projector budget, but since i do most of my everyday watching on the plasma seemed like a fair trade off....

if your after quick replies a group buy is probably not going to work, they take a number of months (generally) to get off the ground. But depending on what happens i am interested in one of the JVC projects, although not sure which model currently. and no anamorphic set up for me, but +1 for a screen

QUOTE (Gino @ Oct 21 2009, 04:27 PM) Anyone else excited about this projector? So many features for just US$2K, considering buying one for the bedroom. http://www.projectorcentral.com/panasonic_...ctor_ review.htm It really seems to tick all the boxes, but knowing our luck here in OZ i would expect about $3499.

QUOTE (Jack Walsh @ Dec 23 2009, 08:23 AM) What would you guys believe to be the best $3000 or less projector? My budget is fairly flexible, meaning I can go over a few 100. Some include: Infocus X10 Epson TW-3500 Sanyo PLV-Z3000 If you can still get one the BenQ W5000, the W6000 has superceded it but they're about 3.8k.......

I have been given as a gift a Benq MP623 Projetor. Is this a good one to use? I have a wall to project off. Is it better off a screen? or just use the wall. The room is very dark. Gidday, Mark Techer has asked me to post the latest news regarding his Aussiemorphic Mark IV Prototype Lens just returned for field testing. He has sent me the prototype PQ photos and when I have permission I'll post those as well. I have erased the RRP of the Lens as I did not get permission to post that so if you want to know PM Mark Techer himself. All I will say is it's very ...

Just received my brand new JVC HD950. Did some testing on friday night with Planet Earth, Casino Royale and Dark knight with stunning results. Definately worth the wait and expense. Cant wait to put on the finishing touches to my room! Hopefully others will be similarly impressed with theirs. I would be very interested to hear what others have to say (IMG: style_emoticons/default/biggrin....

QUOTE (Jason IB @ Sep 11 2009, 09:07 AM) I would not bother with this. You could buy an second hand 720p projector for about this price. I understand it uses LED lighting but i would wait until this technology becomes a little more mature. I'm not sure how you could be impressed with a low quality youtube clip?? If you are really looking for a projector...buy second hand 720p. If ...

Well no responses..... After an hour or so searching I decided to go with a genuine Sony lamp - having spent a significant amount on the projector I wanted to replace it with original components. The cheaper lamps are copies and not originals hence the cheaper price. I found an original for about $100 above the copies. This post has been edited by land_down_under : Yesterday, ...
