Some weeks ago I posted the following words on a forum“s thread( http://www.drummerworld.com/forums/s...ad.php?t=40 846 ). Now after reading it again I consider my participation to be a little off-topic there, but I still want to share my thoughts about drumming (and music making in general)with you guys. After eleven years of learning with a teacher and playing gigs I think that there ...

Aside from Weird Al, I'm in 3 bands locally - blues, blues/jazz/pop, and roots-rock/country - and I'm a regular at a weekly jam where I occasionally do gigs with some of the players there. I keep as busy as I want to, which is normally 1 or 2 gigs a week while I'm in town, and about once a month I do 5 days at a casino with one of the above bands. Bermuda

Since we drummers are always focused on tempo tempo tempo I was wondering if you guys have ever found that a shift in tempo ever really was integral to a song. It could be anything from a straight double time into normal time or just an ever-so-slight waning or waxing of the bpm. You could also mention time signature shifts which have the same feel, but I'm talking more about a change in feel ...

If an alien rang your doorbell and wanted to know what jazz was and you could play only one track for him, what track would that be? Only 1.

One song will rip your face into little shreads of skin and flesh, along with bits of eyeball matter and cartilege(nose ring intact) and that is ----- Yellow, by Coldplay. Dont believe me? Play it at 300Db and let me know the outcome. Good luck! : P

Yes. It might be arguable that nobody is ever more of a musician than when they are alone. Like some have said above - if it's in you, it has to come out. Regardless of whether there's an audience or not.

Well, June of 2007 I overhauled the drums. It's time to do it again. The only difference is that I'm going to spend a lot of time on it because I've got another kit to use. I'm re-doing it because I did a boring job last time and intoxicated fool decided to fall on the kit and put gouges in it. I'm having a total brain fart, I really don't care what I do to the drums. Why not let ...

The two things I think are most important (other than the obvious...steady tempo, etc): 1. Use the drum set as one instrument. 2. Play to the song. A great drummer can sound great even when playing a song without fills. A simple rock beat can sound amazing.

I don't think alot of manufacturers offer them with a standard kit. I am sure you could probably special order them and pay twice as much but who wants to do that?. I know if Mapex offered a 26 with the saturns I would have thought about it. By the way whats the width of yours?

I tend to see different kinds of drummers as in mentality, all with different profiles and habits, here are some which I identified (in my opinion): Rhythm/Chop Drummer: The aim is to be able to play really good chops and have a brilliant technique. Also he doesn't really pay attention to small details as long as the groove in the song sounds good. Musician Drummer: This ...

Music Genre Question - 17 new posts

Well I have been doing a lot of thinking lately about styles of music and success and I have a couple of questions. I definitely want to make drumming my career in the future, but my favorite types of music aren't the same genre as todays most successful bands. I LOVE all rock and grunge and a little metal. And alternative. But if I were to ever be in a band that produced music of ...

i've noticed that there are alot of little wood chips all around the immediate vacinity of my kit, haha. does anybody else notice this around their kits too or do you guys think its just cause i play hard and i don't have my cymbals at a really steep angle so the sides of my sticks dig into them?
