thanks for the link im going to check all the fuses and read the output can i safely assume then that from the reading off the alternator that the alternator is definetly part of the problem

If I read your post correctly, the load with the alteernator connected was 3.6A and it fell to 0.7A when you disconnected it. They are both considered massive parasitic loads. yep, i'd say the alt is duff. The 700 milliamp draw could be something simple like the immobiliser light / radio etc, but it is worth pulling the fuses.

Theres no point in spending £££ on a decent wax if the car is not looked after and properly maintained. take out the fuses until you find where the 700mA is going. It is 0.7Amp so over ten hours it will take 7 Amp-hours out of your battery
