My vinyl? some kind of not porcelain ? bathtub has a nasty blackish stain on the narrow front ledge just under the faucets. I have applied mildewcide several times. Also applied bleach. Also tried SofScrub. Nada. I don't know what the stain could be from. Is there anything else I can try?

I've never really understood about MM readouts for ohms. I have here a Chinee-Sears digital MM (maybe $15 on sale) and a circuit that should measure 450-550 ohms. I set the MM to 2k ohms, the MM reads say .500. Is it telling me it measures .5 x 2000 = 1000 ohms? If not, what? Being as it's digital, shouldn't it report actual integer ohms? More expensive MM's do this? ...

Hi, was hoping you could help or point me in the right direction. I have a coleman powermate 6250w generator that has been sitting in a box for about 4 years, no gas or old was ever put in. Today, we go to fire it up, fill it with oil and fuel, bit it will not start. The plug is new and when holding near the block, we can see spark plus it has plenty of compression. It sounds ...

I've seen a number of older exhaust fans that start very slowly. Turn them on, they barely turn for up to several minutes, then finally speed up fairly quickly to normal operating speed. Can anyone suggest why this happens, and a way to fix them to operate properly?

Hi folks, I believe one or both of the solenoids in my ~10 year old Whirlpool Ultimate Care II Heavy Duty Super Capacity Plus dryer are failing as the system heats up briefly, then cools down, with a constant chatter from the solenoid area whenever the burner should be running. I dissassembled the dryer and removed the two parts. One was labeled 99342B A and the other was ...

------------------------------------- Hi, I install home computers, and recently I was in a beautiful old house to install a machine but found there were only two-prong ungrounded outlets. I didn't know what else I could do, so I removed the grounding prongs from a six-splitter and plugged that into the wall. I plugged the computer and the LCD display into the six-splitter. Can ...

I got the funny (aching) back, put cushions on the floor to watch the ball game or whatever on tv of an evening. I'm lower than a couch potato. I'm a floor potato. :-) Also in my second (and last) childhood. Fix supper, carry it in, eat in front of the tube. I tilt the supper plate a degree or 2 and the silverware scoots across the shiny plate, lands on the floor, usually with...

I'm holding my breath while another hurricane passes me by, not hoping it goes elsewhere particularly. There is an old map, 1779, in the Library of Congress with some really interesting notes. One note, especially, says that the Island of Grand Gosier (just NE of mouth of the Mississippi) was entirely washed away in a hurricane in 1772, but in 1776 had recovered about a mile at ...

On 8/29/2008 8:50 AM Rich256 spake thus: I never paid much attention but just a couple months ago a metal hangar fell behind a dresser. There was a big flash and a breaker blew. Model 3733 20" Box Fan made by company called LASKO It has 3 settings, high, medium and low, I cannot determine the Wattage it pulls on the Low setting. I found a website which says 170 watts but it doesn't break it down for low medium high settings. Thanks if you can help.

Our relatively new yard is in transition and we currently have no patio or deck. I would like to assemble something semi-permanent that would be easy to do, as well as easy to disassemble when we upgrade to an outdoor "room". My idea was to use 2"x6"x12' pressure treated lumber laid flat at intervals directly on the ground and anchor them to the soil with either rebar or stakes ...

MY 3 year old house built on a concrete slab has a new crack I found (the 6th one) in the floor of a room where I was removing builder (Veranda Homes LLC) installed carpet. The crack is 14 feet long and at one end was a bad patch job that was a 1 1/2 foot hole. I tapped on the patch area to find that it sounded hollow, then the patch crumbled. I found that my slab is only 2-3 inches ...

I would appreciate some opinions on garage door openers. I presently have a genie of indeterminate age that is starting to fail. Its a screw drive consumer model with the three part track bolted together. The local door service I called suggests replaceing it with a Liftmaster, either chain or belt driven. I have a 1/8th thick aluminum bar 36 inches long and 2 inches wide that I want to drill some 5/16 inch holes into and bend to 90 degrees. Could a hand held drill be used to drill the holes or would I be better off taking it to a machine shop. If a hand held would do it what specifications would the drill have to have to do it? Thanks.

First off, let me say that whoever installed this cable was an idiot. Cable was buried maybe 2" down and snaked out away from the house 6 feet then back then back 4 feet into a flower bed and toward my front porch then back out again toward the array of utility boxes in the front yard. You guessed it. When I was dividing some Daylilies today I cut it (not that I knew until after ...
