I told Jada I heard of this when she told me what the dentist said. Although I had just heard of the soda thing...

ok to wait?

My Dr. does not like to wait either ( nor do i) . I am wondering if you can get a peripheral iv put in at home by a home infusion company in the mean time till Monday . That way you wont allow 3 more days for whatever is going on to get worse. In my eyes that would be your best option since you cant see the Dr. till Monday . ------------------------- ~ Diane 43 / cf / diabetes / b.cepacia

i've been on cipro and bactrim for the last week. i don't feel bad, i had a cough but the medicine has helped. i'm still so congested though. i haven't coughed up any more since about 10:00 this morning. my nurse told me to hold off on treatments tonight and if i don't have any more blood tomorrow to resume with them. i'm scheduled to have a picc placed at 7:30 monday morning. it was probably a tablespoon total...

First time in hospital?
Published (2009-01-09 01:29:00)
9 when I was 1st admitted. Which is why I find it weird people say "oh my kid has mild CF or atypical or even "two mutations" but no symptoms yet . Ask a lot of the adults on this forum - many of us didn't have any symptoms for years..... it's progressive!!!!! Admitted for 14 days. No home IV's. Many docs try to keep kids in patient because they are able to rest more. Rest is almost as important as antibiotics....

First time in hospital?
Published (2009-01-09 11:21:00)
I was 12 the first time I was admitted. I got a horrible case of pneumonia that put me in ICU. I spent 10 days in the hospital, and then had to do at-home IVs for another week or some. I didn't have to go into the hospital or on IVs again until I was 27, and that was only because I got a lung infection and had just moved and didn't have a CF doctor yet, and the guy I was seeing wouldn't prescribe me a long enough dose of...

the pancreas
Published (2009-01-08 21:51:00)
Chronic Pancreatitis is not pancreatic insufficent. It is inflamation in the pancrease. In CF the problem with the pancrease is that the enzymes produced by the pancrease can not usually be released to do their job, because mucus is blocking the ducts. I would not recommend getting your pancrease out. U need it to live. I would put to much time into worrying if u r going to get cancer, most cancers are out of our control or not fully...

the pancreas
Published (2009-01-08 18:28:00)
Hi, I have been doing some research and seem to have discovered that those with pancreatic insufficiency are at relatively high risk of pancreatic cancer later in life (35+, which I am approaching). Some numbers are below. I also included the link to the article I read. I'm making the assumption that pancreatic insufficiency implies Chronic Pancreatitis - (I'm not sure if this is true). So, questions: Is there any type of screening I...

I give my son Miralax each morning and I'm wondering how long it takes for it to work from the time I give it to him. What is the reasoning behind taking it in the morning after waking vs. at night before sleeping? Thanks! ------------------------- Sarah Mom to Eli, 3 yrs old with CF.

How old were you or your little one when you were admitted into the hospital for the first time (CF-related)? How long was your/their first stay and why were you admitted? Are you ever given a PICC line and sent straight home (providing you know how to maintain one)...do CF doctors generally try to keep CFers out of the hospital during treatment due to the chance of acquiring various bacterial ...

Diane, I am so sorry to hear you're not doing well right now. I know how frustrating it is to have infection after infection - believe me. The good news is it sounds as though this flare up was caught early and you have a good chance of knocking it out quickly and maybe even regaining some ground. And remember that while increased infections can definitely be a cause for concern in CF, there is ...
