Local Y has cable, your own personal set atop each of the ellipticals. Last night I spent a happy 20 minutes staring unblinkingly at one of the channels, with a shadowy ARTS logo. It was a pas de deu by a Russian pair...yep, a man in tights, with quads that make Lance's look like toothpicks. And he kept...rotating... dang camera operator was apparently male, as the focal point was often the female dancer's face and arm movements....

It most technological societies, it is hard to be a "Renaissance Man" for the reasons stated above. I think in the less technological societies, it not only possible, but a necessity. I also think in own scoeity it is possible, but you have to make the choice to do so.

Just my dos centavos here. I'm not formal kind of guy but it's not a good thing to show up and have your potential employers or their SO's dressed better than you are. You could definitely be in that position at the Urban League event and it sounds like there could be quite a number of folks going to both events.

Business casual should serve you well enough. Chinos/khakis with a blouse and cardigan or sweater should be just fine.

Anyone else have off for MLK Jr. Day? I have no plans right now, but I'm sure something will come up. If the weather's nice, I'll be at the dog park, for sure!

Just so Cyburbians don't pre-judge this thread as being too "lame", I have added the opening comments from Dan , the originator of the same game that went from 11-2-03 through 3-19-05. After 381 posts the game died and the thread was closed. Surely (....."don't call me 'Shirley'".....) our Great Leader would never jump-start a lame game. With that thought in mind, let's try again........

I've never had subscription television and used to relish hotel stays so I could watch stuff like CNN or MSNBC. I stayed in a hotel last weekend and realized something. There surely must be more going on in the world that merits more time than the death of John Travolta's son. Certainly this is a terrible event, but does it merit having it played over and over again? One wonders how people...

Are the Suburbs Killing Your Manhood? I wanted to post this article from the AoM blog here since we have many commentaries on the suburbs. This article speaks about control. This article brings up some interesting points, in the discussion of ...

This Bear did somewhat of a lame archive search, to see if the topic of "lame" had been in other threads. Other than a really lame Maister thread (sports team mascots) the topic appears to be ripe for trivial (more lame) and unsophisticated (even more lame) discussion. With all this lameness in mind, let's explore the topic..... I would argue that many Cyburbian attempts at humor are ...

I'm usually an early adopter of new technologies, but my luck and finances didn't make that possible for HDTV until recently. It was difficult to save for luxuries with my previous job, and whenever I got they money together for an HDTV set, a cluster of thousand-dollar expenses would rear its early head. Yesterday night, I ordered my first HDTV set off of Newegg; a 37' Sharp Aquos, 720p (I'm...

For a lot of people the holiday season equals family gatherings. And for many family gatherings equal food. Lots of food. Special holiday-only food. Unfortunately for some, holiday food also equals holiday weight gain. How much weight did you gain this holiday season? 5lbs? 10lbs? Were you one of the lucky ones who is able to exercise control around Aunt Edna's Famous Chocolate ...
