I don't know if I understand your question correctly, but it sounds like the ramp is not compliant. This link takes you to the actual ADA language: http://www.access-board.gov/adaag/html/adaag.htm#4 .8
1:12 is the maximum slope you can get away with for new construction. In addition to that ratio, each "run" ( the distance between flat surfaces - say the grade and the first landing or ...

They are nice but,
I agree with RJ on the maintenance ?
A different experience is that Census would designate it as a block.

I loved the collection of photos, in fact, think I saw the house I grew up in in those pictures! Well, not really, but like has been stated before, many of those houses seem to look alike... I guess that throws a wrench in to what we think of as these new cookie-cutter homes; it's been going on for over 100 years like that!
I know some people have wondered why these homes cannot be ...

I've never really agreed with having to have certain colors conventions.
Like your situation, when you have many slighly varying districts, if you use a color gradation, it becomes hard to distinguish between the different districts.
My preference is to have the various districts assigned distinct colors (if possible) so that the distinction between individual districts is evident....

7' or 8' x 22' is pretty common, I haven't seen 9' wide in a standard before. IIRC the 7' examples will tend to be attached to sections with wider streets, and 8' to narrower streets, bascially cancelling out any functional difference. It blends into discussions of street width, traffic calming through narrowness, etc; can't really be decided as a single requirement. I would say allow down to...

I think that as you grow as a planner, architect, or observer of the built environment, you start to realize what it is about certain places that you like. Also, over time, you'll find that your preferences may change, and those places that once gave you the warm fuzzies now make you cringe.
I always felt comfortable in middle- to upper middle-class inner ring suburbs in the northeastern ...

Many thoughts:
First, I have lived in 100+ year old baloon-frame houses. They may have had some nice architectural details, but I never lost a marble in one because I always knew what corner of the room it would roll to. Many modern building materials and methods are better than in the past, though others are not.
Second, we used to have lots of old-growth forests that supplied ...
