Hi shredderskates and welcome. Try this, plug in your microphone and rightclick on the Speaker Icon in the bottom righthand corner of your screen and choose Recording Devices. Click on your Microphone in the window, and then click on the Configure button. Click Set up Microphone in the next window and follow the prompts to configure the device. Did this help? If not, try updating your Sound Card driver.

Are you trying to install windows in effort to fix a previous problem? Is the disc you are putting in a Dell recovery CD or a windows OS disc? Sounds like some drivers didn't load properly. If you have your motherboard drivers on a CD try putting that in the CD tray then booting. Or try a repair disc.

Editing the right-click context menu requires editing the registry. Users of ConTextEdit give it good reviews although I've never used it so I can't give you any detail on how it works. It's freeware so if you want to try it, you can download it from Softpedia . If you'd rather try the registry edits manually, a Google search (or the search engine of your choice) for "edit right click menu vista" will give...

A COA is not a software license deadsnake. It is a label that helps you identify genuine Microsoft software. See here .
If you can provide proof of purchase, Microsoft may replace your DVD for a nominal charge. See here for more help. If you have a OEM operating system (preinstalled), contact the manufacturer and they will send you the Recovery Disk for a small fee.

I'm having a problem with my HP Pavillion dv9000 laptop. Everything slows to a crawl shortly after booting up and loading Internet Explorer. The CPU maxes out at 100%. I discovered that there were 2 "Werfault.exe" processes running that together accounted for most of the 100% CPU use. I have tried several things including disabling this process, running antivirus and spyware programs. ...

Hi burnxowl and welcome. It's just toshibaregistration.exe that has stopped working and it's not needed at all.
Hit the Windows Key plus r on your keyboard and type msconfig in the Run Box and click OK. Click on the Startup Tab and look for the below entry (it may not look exactly like this but should be quite similar).

What kind of mouse do you have? I've never ran into or seen this problem. But, it sounds like there may be some kind of conflict with the mouse software used, or just the drivers for it. Have you tried a different mouse?

Then after it load, it goes to a black screen and start running a check and gets stuck on 259/90,0000 or something like that.

My computer was working fine last night, but today I went to start it up and it starts up fine, but takes me to a black screen with just my documents up. It works fine and I can navigate from there, but I have no start menu or taskbars or desktop to speak of. I think the computer is fine as I am currently using it right now and connecting to the internet, but I have basically no desktop. I have ...

With Internet Explorer open, press one of the Alt keys ( bottom row on the keyboard). That will display the menu bar where you can click on View>Toolbars>Menu Bar to get the menu bar to display permanently.
At the top right-hand corner of the Favorites list there is a small X. Click on it to collapse the Favorites pane.

Hi BickBarrer and welcome. Reboot again, access the Windows Recovery Environment and run System Restore. If the restore is successful, it will allow you to boot into Windows.
When Startup Repair tries to run, click on Cancel and you should be taken to a screen that offers various choices, System Restore being one of them. See here for more help.
