I would flush it well with some solvent, Is it the bottom screw that is stripped? If so remove both screws and flush from top, should be no problem I believe a
helicoil would repair that thread

The spline is probably rusted into the flywheel.
You have
two pieces of scrap.......it will cost you way too much in aggravation and busted knuckles to try to save them.....unless you want to restore them for antique boat sake

I am guessing the big cone shaped thing was a zinc. I would contact Dufour for exact specs on what is down there. Might even be in your
owners manual. I would think you lost your nuts (no not those nuts) and the key as well. Are you sure the prop was a Volvo prop? is this a sail drive? If it is contact Volvo for info seriail should be on the engine plate next to engine serial.

My wife and I are presently cruising in Mexico. As we were pulling up to the fuel dock at San Jose del Cabo, the slip coupling on our 25-year old Volvo failed and the prop shaft tried very hard to leave the boat entirely.
The remnants of the old shaft coupling kept it from doing so.

I think you are sort of stuck having to haul. You might be able to get a driver to do it but it is really not the kind of thing to do like that. Cutlass bearing are rubber not copper. If you put a copper sheet in there it is likely to heat up and stick to the shaft causing more damage. Honestly this is a job that requires hauling. Best just
