Sandy, the Furuno GP-32 is from the same era as the Garmin 128. Both will last forever. I must admit I never operated a Garmin radar, but I can't really think of anything simpler than Furuno radars. Really, for all the radar manufacturers, Furuno is the one to beat, the benchmark reference. I find dual range one of the more useful features for in-shore work and I find it a much better option that a single-range broadband radar because...

Wonder when the eLoran will become available to recreational sailors. There had been much chatter on it but now it seems they got stuck or something. Also, where is the European GPS ??? It was supposed to be here errrr... two years ago? b.

Hello Dan, many thanks for your help. The link to imagecfg.exe was broken when I tried it but Google found several other sources. I have since received a modified file which has also cured the problem, but imagecfg.exe will no doubt come in handy for other software that is not 100% compatible with duo core processors. This is a great site to seek help. I am so glad I joined. Regards Biggles

Nick: you pick periods in history to criticize Garmin today! You said "N2K support started with some engine dials only (not even GPS was supported!). They defended that by stating that the engine-data wasn't available on 0183." But that lasted less than 3 months, there have been 5 major (painless) updates since then, and now a Garmin GMI 10 is a better choice to read a myriad of other manufacturer's N2K sensors than...

The first brand I come up with is Simrad. The reason is that we have Simrad (Robertson) components for the autopilot and this is the only system that's compatible with N2K aboard Jedi... so it's gonna stay.
We have the AP25 control head, which is now discontinued but the new heads are basically the same (they dropped RobNet and changed over to a SimNet rudder sensor... nice!).
We also have ...

Sure hope the broadband lives up to the promise. We are about to install the Simrad BR24 with their chartplotter, triducer (depth, speed, temp) and AIS transceiver.
In less than a month we'll be able to give some actual information :-)

Cheap or Exchange Digital / Paper Charts
My wife and I are planning to cruise the Great Lakes next year, followed by a couple of years cruising the East Coast and who knows where after that. I'm planning on navigating with digital charts backed up by paper charts and am concerned about the costs. If I were to cruise the same areas year after year that wouldn't be so bad, ...

Why would you think that the GPS position is wrong and that an old chart and loran would be be correct? Recent notices do not represent a recent survey with modern technology. If there are modern charts of Nefoundland I could not find them to purchase in Nova Scotia. The one I found was clearly pre-GPS.
If in doubt use your 'Mark I Eyeballs'

Hi Jim, Warwick off Archer here, I have had the same problem with 11 on some installations, our main version that we run on our own computer has been fine it had been cracked a bit differently but unfortunately the disc got damaged so I sourced another disc which has proved problematic, not much help for you though. By the way we have sold Archer and have bought a property and Mussel Farm in ...

I used Garmins 72 (better) and 76 (good enough). Mind - no charts there, but they are strong as brick and have some basic navaids stored in (lights) and tides for the US too. I liked them a lot.
There is a 76 with a chart too.

A sales guy at a chandlery told me Northstar is dropping their marine stuff. Have no idea if that is true or not.
