Inverter Installation Question -...
Published (2009-12-18 07:53:00)
OK, so that I get this right, I connect the Neutral AFTER the 50 amp breaker to a buss, and then send 1 6/3 wire, to the victron inverter charger ac in. From there it goes back to the panel, where the ground gets connected to the AC ground bus, the Neutral goes to its own inverter neutral bus, and the hot wire goes to the distribution bar on the bss 360 panel. For the non inverter load, the hot goes to the bss distribution bar on the non...

Inverter Installation Question -...

Sounds like it so, far but make sure all loads connected to the inverter side of the panel have there neutrals going to the inverter neutral buss bar only. So if you have the hot out of the inverter going to a group of say six breakers one the panel those 6 loads must also have there neutral on the inverter neutral buss. And the inverter neutral buss much be separate from the shore neutral buss. All grounds go to a main ground buss that is...

John- The graph I posted in Post #67 is correct for that I/C. Balmar uses a 200 mV difference to transition from bulk to absorption for a couple of reasons. My posting in #67 and in this post is to clarify that voltage is held constant during the absorption stage and current naturally decays off as the battery resistance increases with increasing state of charge. Other posters disputed that the absorption stage was a constant voltage stage,...

Inverter Installation Question
Published (2009-12-15 13:49:00)
Bob, Many temp sensors use inexpensive thermistors. These little devices change their characteristic resistance with temperature. Resistance drops as temperature increases. You can then get a pretty good fix on the temperature by measuring the resistance across the thermistor. The Victron temp sensor is most likely this type. The single lug is just a convenient way to connect to the battery post, but the thermistor circuit is inside the lug....

Quote: but I will stick with the published standards and hope others do as well. okay wise guy lets look at the ABYC "standards", "E-10.7.10 A vent system or other means shall be provided to permit the discharge from the boat of hydrogen gas released by the battery. " "Other means" basically means anything goes so an unsealed lid is sufficient. thats way manufacturers do so. By the way I...

Three-Stage Charger Actually...

This is coming from a thread drift of the battery ventilation thread. I believe that some 3 stage chargers are 3 stage due more to wording than to fancy electronics. CharlieJ posted this 3 stage chargers graph in the vent thread: http://www.cruisersforum.com/forums/...2&d=1260805238 (Actually I believe that the current graph in the bulk stage is wrong. It should be a flat line at the max current heighth.) This graph indicates to me...

Fusing Solar?
Published (2009-12-11 04:14:00)
My panels were cheap and small. I looked, no diodes. For the start battery I think I can get away with an inline 5 or 10 amp fuse close to the battery, but I suspect I'll need something more serious near the house batteries.

I don't believe that there is an average power. It depends on your needs, space, and funds. There are as many possible combo's depending on all of the above. At the time of purchase we bought the biggest panels we could afford that fit the space. At the time the only bigger that were avalaible were about 160watt, but a 3 times the price.
Makai carries 480 watts 4 X 120watt. Next time out ...

Just wire them in parallel and you are good to go. On the other hand, how many batteries are you powering? You may not need an MPPT controller. Is the 5-8% gain in charging ability worth the extra cost. Another panel or better aiming of the panels will result in a higher gain than that claimed by the MPPT control crowd. It is not ascertained exactly how much of the additional effeciency of ...

The earth leakage circuit breaker... I guess thats a GFCI wired in series on the loads? If that is it, then no problem there, all 4 circuits will have Marinco GFCI breakers on the first
outlet. Was going to use BSS GFCI breakers, but to expensive and takes up to much room.

In closets it is a convenience, in engine rooms and lazarettes it safety enhancing: Lighting.
Are there any good (not fancy but truly functional) LED fixtures which are specifically designed for utility lighting like that ?

Fusing Solar?
I am currently putting a couple of 10W solar cells onto Boracay to trickle charge the batteries and I know I need fuses/circuit breakers. I just don't know how big, what type and where they go.
Solar Cell 1 is to charge the start battery. This battery also runs the electric automatic bilge pump.
Solar cell 2 is to charge the house batteries (currently 2 x ...

In November of 2006 we looked hard at portable generators with some serious consideration to the Kipors. But due to the lack of support (I couldn't find one place that sold parts or repaired them), and due to the little price difference we opted for the proven track record of the Honda EU2000i. The Kipor 2kw was going to run us $700, wisesales.com was selling the Honda for $849 which included ...
