Very sad. And it's even sadder that there are conglomerates and entities that push for that to continue as the status quo.

Yay Beth for it healing! It is a bit amusing though what the letter said, as if the guy had no faith at all in what he was doing and is baffled that it worked! Oh well, it DID work and that's great as it seems to be the first good news you've had so far! YAY

I have been to see the consultant and he has agreed with me (strangely) that he cannot guarantee I will be painless and symptom free after a right hemicolectomy. He is starting me on azathioprine but forgot to do the blood test last month for the rogue enzyme! So got to go back in 4 weeks to see if i'm okay to start AZA. I have downgraded my pain to moderate discomfort! i think I would rather carry on knowing how to handle the...

Just got back from talking with the surgeon. She recommends a proctocolectomy. My gf is so distraught. I guess she's got some thinking to do. We'll probably go get another opinion too just to be on the safe side and be sure this is what's necessary.

So, I've been weaning off Prednisone. My last dose was last night. While I was weaning off (I can't remember what amount I had gotten down to), I began to develop a bit of a rash on the back of my neck. I also started getting itchy eyes, and styes on my eyes pretty frequently. I showed the rash to my GI doctor, but he said he didn't see much, and that it could be related to the pred, but he didn't elaborate. Is this a side...

Questran is the bile binder....I take that too. I hate it!!It's like drinking liquid plaster. It mixes well with juices. You can't take it with your regular meds because it will bind them, and they won't work. Be careful that you take your meds a few hours between the Questran.

When I slid it would take me about 2-3 days to kick back in. HOWEVER, when
I was double dosed and at 5 week intervals I would slide at week 4.5 and by
the time I took the infusion it wouldn't kick in for a week. Good luck
chick!

I'm 'at risk' of osteoporosis and have a DEXA scan every few years, so far so good but I've not been on steroids. The advice I've been given is to make sure you get plenty of calcium, preferably from green leafy veg - they dont know about the Crohn's yet!, and do lots of weight bearing exercise - the more the better. Taking calcium of itself is not particularly helpful.
I'd have thought the...

How close together have all those radiation tests been? I know too many too often can be harmful. They always ask me when I get one done when the last time was that I had a similar procedure. I would make sure the doc's know when you had one of those tests last.

relief. I'm assuming she will have an ileostomy??? Hopefully someone with
some personal experience can help answer your questions.

I was also on Humira for a short time and it was not for me either. Some do
well on it and some don't I guess. But there are possible side effects for
anything that you take, but thats just my opinion.

Eating less fiber and taking miralax will help things pass through much easier. For a while I could only eat 2 grams of fiber with each meal. Now I can eat about 5-6 grams. Good luck, they can also dilate you and that can help out quite a bit.

Shhh....Be happy. Doctors get just as frustrated when things they do don't
work for us. Crohn's is a pain in the Butt for doctors to treat, because
not everything works for everyone. My surgeon was very pessimistic with me
during my resection. He was really negative because I had been on such high
doses of steroids....

I might call you doc on Monday and just let them know that. Some people are not able to tolerate different kinds of antibiotics. I know for me - Cipro never effects my gut. I don't believe Flagyl ever did either - but it has been too many years ago that I had to take it. If you can tolerate dairy - you may try taking one of the probiotic yogurts inbetween your antibiotic doses to try and ...

I'm on Salofalk, been on it for years... I don't know how exact the science of the ' buffering' compound is... and I think (to use a crude analogy) the use of any of the 5ASA drugs for treating this disease is akin to using depth charges to hunt for submarines without the benefit of sonar. It's a scattergun attack with little chance of ...

Health Care Rant...
So, being an American, I know everybody has different opinions on how health care should be reformed, blah blah blah. But we all have a lifelong disease that requires costly treatment. I'm 19 years old, my father is disabled, and when my stepdad got a new job last year I couldn't get on his health insurance because it ...
