Chaining for Row Turn on DC
Published (2009-12-15 13:04:00)
Thanks for the help everyone. I think that's really my problem. My chains are just too tight to do ch 2 correctly, but not quite tight enough to require ch 3. I think I'll tighten up my chains and stick with Ch 3 (mostly so I don't have to unravel). I'll definately try the no turning chain DC on my next project, looks like that's just what I need. Is there a similar method for doing HDC? I'll hunt for it, but if...

I use the method that Darlene posted the video for above. I really like it. Sometimes I forget to use it & chain 2 instead. I like chain 2 better than chain 3 for the reason stated, leaving gaps. I try to make my chain 2 loose though. It's easier to see & the height is more equal to the rest of the doubles. The height is the main reason for the chains after all--if you crochet tightly, you would need 3 chains to similate a...

I turn my work clockwise first (so my yarn is in back of the work), insert my hook under both loops of the last dc, pull through a loop (two loops on hook), yo and pull loop through both loops (not quite a sc), then chain two. This gives the height of about 2 1/2 chains, with a wider stitch at the bottom. It's easy to do and I don't have any gaps or holes.

Most pattern instructions call for chain 3. If there is a question if your pattern is in British or US terms, this is one way to tell. Your wife might chain loosly (I do), or do the ch-2 to try to avoid the 'hole'. There is no 'right' way, whatever works best for you.

I've used the reverse single crochet. It is awkward to do but I like the looks of it after you are finished. I am going to check the video out later to see if I can pick up some tips. You are never too old to learn something new.

You are just making a chain 3 loop. Do 3 single crochet, chain 3 and then another 3 sc back in the same ch-6 loop. It is just a chain 3 loop that will form a very small bump. I hope that hopes. They are calling this a picot, but its not a real picot stitch. Its just a bump. Hope that helps Hugs Kath

I'm about to finish the main part of my blanket and being the edging. I've never done rounding before and the edging requires it. I've read how to do rounding and I've read the instructions to do the edging but it doesn't make sense to me. I'm going to write down the instructions and also write down how I'm reading it. Please let me know if I'm understanding it ...

If you are making lace linearly (not in the round, like a doily) it's nearly always turned. Some lace is made by making a looooong chain (about 3.5' for a pillowcase?) and working back and forth across that chain for several rows until the pattern is completed. Some patterns are made the narrow way, say if it is 2" wide you work back and forth, turning, across the 2" until you get ...

Reverse SC is usually only done as one row. It will look even more different than the rest of yout hat. What I do is work into the back loop only on all right side rows, on the ear flaps. Then it does not matter if it looks different. This is not a wonderful picture but will give you a bit of an idea. Mine is all done in US DCs and on this one, I actually did the back loop only on ...

Does the snowman have arms? I have seen patterns where you start from the neck, then past the shoulders skip stitches on each side of the body, and keep going for the trunk and beyond; the holes on each side of the body either become sleeves or a spot to attach arms to. "ch 1(underarm) ,mark top loop of ch, for st placement, then skip next 8 sts, slip st in next 10 sts." Is the next...

At the start of a row The ch 2 is the first part of the hdc2tog, make another hdc in the same stich - that is the 2nd part of the hdc2tog, then proceed as normal. At the start of a row different stitches are usually replaced by chains.
