Indeed, much more sidespin. He could beat batsmen in the air and off the pitch back then. These days he only beats them in the air. Misjudging the length is crucial so much less often when the ball isn't turning. You could say he's adapted his bowling to fit his role in the side, becoming a much more defensive bowler as he's given much more responsibility. Reckon McKenzie's utterly shocking finish to his career counts heavily against him too myself, given how many people will insist that a full-career-average is the best way to judge a bowler.
