interest with prepayment of balance
Published (2009-12-09 13:23:00)
Not true. The interest accrues while you are in school. It's not just tacked on at graduation. What you can do is is pay the interest, along with the principal if you'd like, as it accrues while you're in school. This would prevent the interest from being capitalized at the end of your grace period. If that happens, the interest is added onto the principal and you start paying interest on interest... That might be what your...

This Thread is giving me "Courage" to not Consolidate, and instead Rehab (as i did last year, do it one more time i guess) my NJ HESAA Loans.. that will make AES/PHEAA (which i have) go away!!! IIRC: Guarantor = AES/PHEAA.. they GO AWAY when the loan is REHABBED Lender = NJ HESAA ... IF i get a Payment Plan and REQUEST REHABILITATION with them, then THEY will update my GOOD PAYMENT STATUS of 9 or 10...

First and foremost, Pell Grants are grants, not loans. They do not need to be repaid. Pell Grant Rules . You need to get an accounting of EXACTLY what you owe. Find out what and who you owe through The NSLDS . Call the USDE again and ask for an account of your loans, balances at default, balances when transferred and to whom they were given.

The DOE won't deal with you unless the CA does something wrong and you go through the channels. Then, in some cases, the will pull the loans back and service them directly. You have a couple of options. You can contact an ombusdman to can help you make sure this is legitimate and set up properly. Or you can find out who the SL liaison is at the CA and contact that person with your concerns before going any further. In any event, even if...

interest with prepayment of balance
Published (2009-12-09 12:38:00)
I am approved for an unsubsidized stafford loan which I have yet to actually take out, since I am definitely not a fan of paying interest. However, I heard from someone that if I take out unsubsidized staffords, then pay off the balance before graduation, then I am no longer responsible for any of the interest that has accrued over that time. I can't find any resources that explain the benefits of paying off a balance in this manner, and...

Thx for your reply again Saria! So AES/BRAZOS and Sallie Mae TL's will stay no there and will update? or not? If not, from what date will they fall since I have deferred them and whatnot? Again I appreciate your replies Saria. As always, you are extremely helpful. I only posted this similar thread over in Credit Forum because there are always more viewers there and I just wasn't sure...

Unfortunately, unless they've made some bona fide error, it's very unlikely that you'll be able to get them removed. Your best bet is to send them a goodwill letter. Do a search here on the site to find more info about those. Please realize though, that even a goodwill letter is a long shot. Any time you apply for a forbearance or deferment on a student loan, always stay on top of it to ...

This sounds like a Federal Perkins Loan, so I will use that as the assumption. If this is true, then rehab is an option Federal Loan Rehabilitation . If your loan shows up on the NSLDS Website , then this should be true. For rehabbing a student loan, everything is negotiable but must be 'reasonable'. There is no down payment required and the minimum payment is typically 1% of the ...

My private SL are now in default. The guarantor placed them with NES (CA), who on their first day of calls racked up tons of violations and they didn't send out their initial notification after they contact you. The servicer no longer carries the loans to which I was sending in something every month. It wasn't nearly what the payment was, but I was trying. So now that AES is no ...
