Hi Ben, Have you seen the Effective
Sculling DVD? In the DVD Rebecca Romero and Elia Luini both demonstrate sculling with very straight backs, and Olaf Tufte has his back more curved. You can get a glimpse of Rebecca Romero sculling here: http://www.rebeccaromero.co.uk/gallery_rowing.htm I have read various places that keeping the back straighter puts you in a stronger position to ...

Byron, Thanks for posting this. It's a good reminder of the dangers if you do fall in during the winter. Of course, another danger is the stream (which is currently strong on

Star Club in Bedford. Very friendly and successful.

back ache. You can keep going for hours, and you see where you're going, scraping along the coasts and rocks in a foot of water. Legs are not used so much as in sculling, but it's easy enough to do both K1 or ...

Simple
answer - Yes, it in normal. Its just down to the mechanics of how the stroke works with you rotating your outside shoulder round, but its not so severe that I ever notice it. Make sure you are not over reaching - going for a bit of extra length at the catch, keep your back straight and get your torso into a strong position off the back, and remember to engage with the legs keeping your ...
