I know that the internet service we just hookerd up uses a modem and there is no wireless application there. However there may be a wireless adapter installed from before. Could this be causing the conflict you describe? And would going to that wireless adapters manufacturers website for the drivers help? The problem doesn't seem to impede the computer from working but I'd prefer to fix it none the less.

Try looking in your startup files using msconfig. If it's not there I differ to other forum members for a solution.

I'm trying to re-install XP Home oem (SP3) on a sata dive in a Dell Dimension XPSGen3. The error message "Setup did not find any hard disk drives installed, etc, stops the installation. I've slipstreamed the Intel sata drivers for the ICH6R controller onto the cd, no luck. Tried F6 and installing from a floppy, same thing. Curiously, if I boot to the hard drive, xp loads and runs, both sata drives are accessible. But when...

There are programs that can crack XP passwords, but we don't make a habit of listing them here. All I can say is if this PC belongs to you, XP is pretty easy to get into--as opposed to Vista (which is only slightly harder).

Contact the manufacuter of each pc and see if recovery discs are still available. Depending on their age, they may not be.
Regarding the BSOD on computer B, can you get the error message that comes with it? That will help greatly in diagnosing the issue.
With computer A, is the cd drive set to be first in the boot order in BIOS? I'm thinking that Kaspersky cd is meant to be bootable.

It sounds virus related to me.
Try this, boot into safe mode by pressing F8 during startup and select "safe mode" from the advanced boot options, as soon as you're in Safe Mode try to access My Computer. If lets you right in to My Computer without any problems in Safe Mode then it sounds like you have a virus. If that's the case then I would go straight over to AVG AVG Free - Download Free ...

Since this happened during a software update, try getting into Safe Mode (if it will even let you) by tapping the F8 key when booting. Aside from that, you'll pretty much need a recovery disk, I'm afraid, unless the dell ...
