Well yeah, he was looking to shell out money, but regardless of that fact, I'd prefer to try to save him money. I go with what you need to pay to get what you want.

Thats a pretty low end card.
Which raises the question, what resolution are you running?
You probably should have bought a better card in the first place.
But there are programs like atitool or evga precision tool that will let you OC it.

As some people might now, I am upgrading my setup. I am moving back to using a desktop again.
The MSI GX620 has served me well over the pasted 12 months. However i think I would rather go back to desktop as I can service and upgrade them. Plus after my last house move, I have one too many computers.
Anyways, i am planning on upgrading my existing desktop. AMD Phenom II X4 965 CPU AM3...

Re: q6600 asus p5q se plus first oc Not an expert with the p5q but with the multi jumping that tells me you have speedstep enabled which adjusts the speed of the cpu based upon load. Hence jumping to default multi of 9X when under load with a default fsb of 266 giving you your 2.4Ghz.
For starters in the AI menu you need to set AI overclocking utility to manual from the ...

no, a 8600GT is going to choke at 1920x1080. at the bare minimum i would recommend a GTS250/HD 4850. A GTX 260/ HD 4870/ HD 5770 would be a better option. but what games does he play?

Try Hardware Monitor for temps: CPUID
Do you have an OC at all? Stock temps seem fine but those temps after 10 seconds of Prime95 are way too hot.

for 3ghz you really don't need water cooling, I'd just go with a higher end air cooler. either a true120 or a megahalems

Sorry for the double post.
Here are a few shots of the 5870 with the Musashi on it. It actually uses the same mounting holes as the 9800GT. I was dissapointed when I found out the back metal plate was held in place by screws that keep the stock heat sink on, I really wanted to have that plate on. Just think it looks cool, plus it protects the card from anything that might drop on it. I ...

since you are going to use a MCR 320 i would just cut holes in the top just for the fans. then mount the rad to the top of the case.
similar to the top of this case. http://www.mountainmods.com/pinnacle-24-cyo-p-498. html
is there enough room to throw it in to your HDD bays?
