dana, hi. i replied before. this is rikk. the doc's attitude is not a good one. he won't listen. i agree with mom, get a new doc that will listen. or let her put a boot in the back of the doc's front. i don't beleive in WTF, unless you also say it to the one that has inspired it. second. not all meds have the same effect on everybody, not all go to the suicidial thoughts. i know that i am kinda pushy...

Thank goodness your insurance company will let you take the brand name. I'd make a big stink about the pharmacy not informing you of the change and let them know of all the seizures you had as a result of their negligence. Maybe this will help the next person. ~Karen

Thank you for commenting. I can't believe that the pharmacy is not required to say anything! I think I am going to start writing letters because I think this should be mandatory. I have a secondary insurance company also and when I called to ask if they requested generics, they said no. They would have approved the Keppra. When I called the pharmacy, the pharmacy asst. told me the same thing about the FDA saying the drugs are exactly...

hi, im writing needing some advice in regards to my meds. Ive been on Epilim since late Nov so not been on it very long. Seizure wise, it seems to have started calming things down a lot and it look like *fingers crossed* that it might be working. when i was put on the medication, i was told of side effects, i googled it and had a looong chat to my general practioner in regards to it but none of the info or talks really prepared me for what i...

What are the results of the sleep-deprived EEG she had? If there was no spiking or any other abnormal activity going on then I would try weaning her off the meds. If there was activity going on during the EEG then I wouldn't risk taking her off AEDs. Try another AED if the Keppra sdie effects are too strong. I take only 1000mg of generic Keppra per day with no other AED. Since it makes me so drowsy my nuerologists suggested I split the...

Oh, I forgot to add - I am now keeping a log of any behaviour changes I experince so hopefully that will help. He seems to take me more seriously when I keep logs of things. Several ppl have said it might be good for me to change DRs., but others have told me my DR. is a great DR. who knows his stuff, hence my confusion. He is going to retire soon however, so I may ask for a reference to UAB, as I hear there is a great DR there. My mom says...

I have been there. However I was faced with something worse (was set up to be raped by girls I thought were friends at age 14 or 15, was raped), I was a zombie at first but I read a book (I know why the cadged bird sings), I realized that what i was doing to myself was worse than anthing, I had been victimized, but then I chose to be a victim, when I realized that I was in control, it gave me feeling of power. It was not easy, but I refused...

Hi all, My husband has been having suspected simple partial seizures. He has had a day of testing (MRI, ECG etc) and tomorrow we are due to meet the consultant to discuss treatment paths. He is not keen on medication as he feels the seizures are not that bad, although is frustrated at no longer being able to drive. Be great to hear of others experience of medication for simple partial seizures - particularly how sucessful the...

Hello. I am trying to find out if anyone else has had to deal with my problem. My daughter is almost 9. She has complex-partial seizures that can progress to tonic-clonic ones if she is sick, the weather is bad, she doesn't get enough sleep, etc... She takes Lamictal and Keppra. She also takes vistaril and tranxene at bedtime to help her go to sleep and not have seizures the next day. When she wakes up we can tell if it is a...

I had status happen a year ago, very scary situation. I'm tired of the memory loss from the medicine Topamax, that I quit taking it two weeks ago. This is the first time off of medicine in 4 years. Now as I read about the status epilepticus, I think I will go back on the Topamax. That medicine is actually the best I've been on, I will have to live with the memory problems, and the lack of ...

Does anyone know what are the chances of getting status epilepticus from clonazepam ( klonopin) withdrawal? I read it's fatal and chances of survival is low but I'm not sure if that's old news and if medical ER technology is better these days. The reason why I ask is because eventually my doctor says I'll have to wean myself off of clonazepam but yet another doctor says not to stop it because ...

I was recently diagnozed with a seizure disorder. For several months, I felt terrible with wave sensations, auras and hot sweats, dizziness daily. I thought it was because of hypoglycemia or hormone imbalance. It finally took an endocronologist to tell me she thought it was a focal seizure that I was having and i should seea Neurologist. I didn't believe it until the EEG showed activity in ...

I am writing hoping to find out a bit more about the treatment of Ethosuximide. My 7 year old Son was diagnosed 1 month ago with Childhood Absence Seizures. His Neurologist started him on 250ml a day of Ethosuximide and after 1 week 250ml twice a day. He is on day 15 and my husband and I have seen a huge decrease in the amount of seizures he has a day but we are still noticing that he is ...

Keppra's generic version came out sometime in November. I went to refill my subscription and without my O.K. I was given the generic, (some word I can't pronounce). I noticed it and assumed it was exactly the same. I had a Tonic-Clonic on the 1st of Dec. then had three Tonic-Clonics on the 14th of Dec. the second one I had that day, I fell forward and broke my nose in two places and my glasses ...

I was switched to topamax because of that very thing! It has or seems to have gotten back to the norm it did take awhile for the lamictal to get out of my system though. I would talk with your Dr. mine was VERY understanding, just don't wait like I did because with me it went from thinning to falling out in clumps : ( Also remember stressing about it (which I know easier said)won't help and can...

My 3 year old son has been on Depakene for 6 months to control complex partial seizures. Thankfully we are 100% seizure free on this med. BUT........We've been dealing with major behavior issues since he has started this med. It has changed his personality from very easy going to sometimes a holy terror. There are way more bad days than good. (we may get 1-2 days of "good" per week), We are ...

Hi 1Never, I'd like to know more, if you're willing to share. Sounds like we've all been there at one point or another. It's kinda overwhelming to go through this alone. Can I ask you a few questions? How long have you had epilepsy? What types of seizures do you have? Can I ask you your age? Glad you came here, hope you post back. Sam

Hi, I just transitioned off of Tegretol and am now taking Keppra by itself. Taking 1500mg of Keppra per day gave me too many side effects. I was drowsed out all day and couldn't sleep at night. My EOS count and liver enzymes were both extremely high. My neurologists cut me back to only 1000mg of Keppra for the last week. The side effects have not changed, but at least the liver enzymes and...
