Jamie - yup, that was on the blog. That cover inspired the whole topic. For the record, here are the other 3. I didn't realize that some offices block blogs.

Same concept. People can say they have (insert favorite rare comic here), but don't care about being able to read it. Makes no sense to me, but I always was a reader as opposed to a "collector". __________________ Originally Posted by Bored at 3:00AM He's become the crazy grumpy bitter old man of the comics industry yelling at people from his porch while the memory of all his great work is slowly eclipsed by his...

I found out that their fee is based on the value of the book, which seems odd to me, because if they wanted to charge you more they could just technically grade it higher, yes? Not sure about volume discounts....that's a good question.

Place I used to work, there was a guy called Juan working there. Used to work in a store in Salford, Manchester. Before he moved to London, one of my friends had reason to call him at the store he was working at. The coversartion (suitably phoneticised) went like this: Friend: Hi, is "Wonn" there, please Store guy: "Wonn? There's no Won's here, mate" Friend: ??? I've been given his name,...

Hello there I have a vague memory of a Conan comic that I read ages ago and I was wondering if this is the appropriate forum to relay that memory in hopes someone might recall the exact comic it was in. If not, any suggestions where I should post? Thanks! Ben

Yup - another subgenre that has obsessed me a little bit lately. See my blog entry from last week: Don't Tread On Me Covers Basically, I'm looking for any covers where someone is about to enjoy an Off-Off-Off-Broadway production of 'Stomp'. Here are a couple more: Anyone know of some other good examples?

Hey guys...just thought I'd ask the seasoned pros how they handle their comics when taking them out of their bags and boards to read? Just this week I cringed when some dude came into my local comic shop and bought $80 worth of comics, and they got mistreated! The lady that worked there is part owner of the shop along with her son...and when she was looking for the prices she kept bending ...

As many of you know, I've been keeping my eye out for new and different subgenres of covers and doing little bits on my blog about them. For a while, I was posting a thread over here on the same topic, but after a while I started feeling as though I was just pimping my own blog so I've stayed away from it. I had a PM from ROK suggesting that people would enjoy the latest, so since idea came ...

Do you know the comic "Modesty Blaise"? What do you think? Is it great, okay, sucks...? In my opinion Modesty Blaise is one of the best comic at all time. With an excellent set up and drawn by Jim Holdaway (need I say more - he is often mentioned as one of the best drawers) Quote: ... Holdaway's art is almost in a class of its own. I've just received a few goodies via ebaY, so here's a brief review of the first to be read. Action Comics No. 420 is the second issue under Julie Schwartz's editorial reign, and the lead, Superman, story, 'The Made-to-Order Menace!,' is the sort of silliness that I thought Weisinger had given up before he left. Towbee, an alien minstrel, creates a monster to fight Superman in order to give ...

I just read the latest issue of Wizard The Comics Magazine (which is now "The Magazines of Comics, Entertainment and Pop Culture") and I have to say the magazine is not what it used to be. I've been reading Wizard since the first issue and I have to say that I'm truly disappointed in the content. The articles are no more than just hype, fanboy interviews and overextended Top 10 lists (this ...

I went to Shinder's in downtown Minneapolis today. The selection was kind of disappointing-- they had very few old comics, and those they did have were mostly overpriced, e.g. Flash #315 or so for three dollars. But I did get the following: Adventures of Superman #521 for 49 cents -- bought it mostly because of the Immonen artwork. Avengers #264 for $2 -- an excellent Sterno/Buscema/Palmer issue...

Kind of long story. Please bear with me. I was telling a friend how much I liked Spider-Man when I was little and she said, "Did you ever make any Spider-Man comics?" My reply was that I'd never made a comic featuring a corporately-owned character except for a minicomic I created, age 5, about Kool-Aid Man and the dinosaur that was on the purple Kool-Aid packages at the time. The villain was...

My LCS is taking 50% off all backbin issues. My question to you classic comics readers is which comics should I buy (if the issues are available, of course)? The absolute best issues/arcs that you can think of. Silver-Bronze Age (late 60s-early 90s) preferred. Doesn't matter which publisher or the characters, the most popular/your most favorite issues! Genres of favor: Crime, Western, ...
