The possibility has been raised in the past that there might have been a few. However, this isn't one of them. I think this should really be in Colt Revolvers.

easy way to get lead rings off...

Today I shot a blued Colt Cobra and S&W Model 57. They both had powder rings on the face of their cylinders. I sprayed them with Gunzilla and let them sit for about ten minutes. Then I brushed the faces with a bronze brush. Poof! Powder rings gone.

I have repro grips on my cut down 1917 I've shown here. I might of got them from the same place. Can't remember but they are excellent and hang past the bottom just enough to feel but not bitch about. Your look better than the shiny wood grips.

New item with ivory
Published (2009-11-21 20:54:00)
Looks great! You're brave to work on such an expensive material for the first time like that, but you did a super job! I like the cracking and color on that ivory. Plain ivory, to me, looks...well, plain, especially one piece grips. But yours, showing just the right amount of character in my opinion, are about the best looking set of ivories I think I've ever seen

Very nice Twaits!
I have recently become enamoured of New Services. I think I am going to have to get one eventually.
Congratulations for a beautiful acquisition.

Numrick used to have the sights for those guns. If your rear site is a U groove, then it is correct with a front bead. The site picture on a bead site of that vintage would have been to completly cover the black bull with the bead. Congrats, its a 44 special and ammo is available almost anywhere. It wouldn't be cheap, but that gun really qualifies as a candidate for proper restoration. The ...

I spoke to Kathy Hoyt at Colt regarding my SAA. She could not give me a date of manufacture but could give me a shipping date. That was good for my needs.
Very nice lady, very busy and gracious in her assistance. I would recommend a call to her.

Hey, that gun came out the same year as I did. My 1957 gun is #141XXSA. Anywhere near yours? And those grips look fantastic in the pictures!

I believe that the rule, if one exist follows this thought pattern: If the current condition is so bad, that spending the money to have a reputable firm restore the gun, and in the end the restoration actually adds value, then it may warrant restoration.
Otherwise restoring Custers Battlefield, or Pattons SAA is a bad idea.
