RedskinFan, I'm the only UVa dean on this board and I'm only an admission dean. I have no power in the Physics department.

Thanks Dean J for the latest information and the feedback on quotes. I do not want to give the impression I'm hammering you or any of the fine people at UVA with the questions that has been debated on this thread. The question was why do in state parents have concerns with the ratio of in/OOS? I believe I have learned something from the debate (7% state funding) and hopefully calmer heads have learned something about my concerns. This...

Yes, it's a Rodman class. Thanks for clarifying that. Her advisor is in the BME department which is great- he's been really helpful.

Zipcars are coming to UVa!

With only 6 cars, I wonder about the availability of them... Trolleys that run every half hour are so packed and tied up around rush hour and there are so many of them... 6 does not seem like a workable number imho.

"What if the Governor lowers the OOS student percentage to say 20% and spreads the remaining cost shortfall amongst the in state students? Would that not be break even cost wise?" ^^^^^ Of course that would accomplish the same thing. But why stop there? If, as you say: ""anyone who says that the school could not be filled with top notch students from Virginia is dreaming" why deny 20% of VA's...

Ronbo, again, parents arguments that OOS enrollment should be reduced because too many OOS students take away places from equally qualified IS students doesn't add up. UVa is a pretty large school and, because of this it seems admissions to UVa seems While a lot of easily Ivy caliber students attend UVa, the large number of students UVa has to accept to maintain its size allows many more less elite students to get in. Simply put, it seems...

Well first off about the business major.
The business major is in another school and not the College of Arts and Sciences that most people are in at UVa. You have to study for 2 years in the College, take Econ and Comm classes as well as other classes and then in second year apply to the Comm School. If you get in you do your third and fourth year in the Commerce School. There is heavy ...

don't take complex until you've taken real, complex is real with complex variables thrown in. i made the mistake of taking it without ever having taken real. i still got an A, but it was a lot of all night studying sessions...
325 is supposedly difficult but i transferred it here.
i also didn't take real like i said.
linear wasn't a lot of work for me but it was for people without proof...

Section C of the Application for Virginia Status? You'll have to download a copy of the supplement, fill out that section, and send it to the Office of Virginia Status.

There isn't much UVa news there. The ratio of VA:OOS students is set by the state and it remains the same. We just had a pretty big thread about this. Quote:

so what essays did you write? Whatever the decision result, I'm curious at what others wrote (partially as my younger sister will also be a potential UVA applicant this year). I'm not sure whether the essays were the thing that pushed me into admission (especially since I made 8 structural mistakes and/or omissions across my 3 essays), but this might help us all realise what worked and...

Sounds corny, but just be yourself. It's really competitive and you never know. There is no formula. I was lucky but I can't tell you why. Good luck.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO...this guy is going to single-handedly destroy UVA a.k.a bring us back to the 1960s. I wouldn't be surprised if he imposed a religion on us, poor TJ, he'll be rolling in his grave.

That's awesome! Unfortunately, since I'm young, if I come to UVA I won't be able to use the cars until my second semester ): But anyways, that's a great idea and pretty cheap - and environmentally friendly!

Really? Fraternities only like laxers, who party hardest on Sunday nights, and wear a blazer to class.
But it all seriousness, rush and see the houses for yourself. Joining Greek life at UVA was the best decision I made, and I am extremely happy with where I chose.
Rush is there for you to see the houses for yourself, and learn about them. Don't start reading college acb, and get ...

I will read this thread more thoroughly on Monday, but please be careful about posting your essays. Sad to say, but I believe there could be people here interested in lifting your essays and using them for themselves or on "advice" websites. Contact a moderator if you want to delete a post with your essay in it.
