UVA vs BC vs Gtown social life
Published (2009-01-07 01:15:00)
like canuck said, it depends upon the person. Some people I know go to frats thurs, fri, sat, every week and enjoy themselves thoroughly. some people went once and never went back. for me, I think it depends upon the frat. I only go to frats if there's a band playing/there's some big event (like the rocket party or heaven and hell or 7 deadly sins, etc) or if there's nothing else that weekend. Most 1st years go to sigma pi so if...

Think logically, if you're trying to sell yourself to a school, why would you purposely not do something as simple as sending in a transcript?

If someone doesn't complete their application, we "force complete" them (not a term used at UVa, but one in fairly common use in college admission). We go around the student and call the school ourselves to get the grades. In mid-February, I think most admission offices have a few people who are trying to force complete applications all day long. If everyone followed directions and filed applications properly, we might...

Just to clarify a little. In my school you are only allowed to take AP classes starting Junior year. I do take a very rigorous course load. I took both physic b and Chem last year and got a four on both (kinda ambiguous the way i wrote it so my apologies). Furthermore I did not even take a AP physics B class I took it on my own volition. For the past three year I've been taking all honor classes except electives of course which are all...

You have a lot of things going for you! Great SAT's, in-state status, and obvious strengths in math and science. Your GPA is somewhat low compared to the average UVA acceptance but strong essays and SAT II's should help compensate...good luck to you!

Merit aid? (And chances)

By the way, you still have a chance for Jefferson Scholarship competition. Thoug the majority of the contestants are nominated by their HS, they do invite a few from the general application population to compete for the scholarship based on the strength of the submitted application. As you probably know, Jefferson Scholarship is a full ride scholarship, and in my opinion, the most prestigious full ride scholarship out there. Who knows, you may...

While visiting UVa, I remember hearing about a program recently installed at UVa in which a student who does not get into McIntire as a sophomore can stay for a 5th year and get a masters degree in business. Can someone knowledgeable on this topic explain a little further?

Well, your SATs are above the school average, and probably above the OOS average also. A 4.0 is a 4.0, and as you have backed up those grades with high AP scores, I have to assume that your school is not soft on grades. I think your chances are WELL over 50%. My S sends many OOS to UVA each year, and your stats are better than most of theirs. I hope you applied.

I am signed up to take the SAT II's on the January 24 test date (I signed up for December but ended up going out of town the weekend of the test). Will that be enough of a time cushion to assure that my scores on the subject tests are considered by admissions officer(s)? My friends tell me to stop worrying, that I will get in (UVA is my #1) but I know I would do well on the SAT II's...assuming ...

I'm pretty sure you've already had a chances thread. Oh wait, you did. Chance Me, I beg you! :) Class rank is based on your high school, not overall applicants to UVa. If it was overall applicants to UVa, you would most certainly not be in the top 10%.

Does UVA offer any merit aid upon acceptance? I'd love to attend if I get in, but paying for it might be a problem. I saw on UVA's website that there are some scholarships available for people who maintain high grades and do well once they're attending, but is there any possible way I might qualify to have my tuition somehow reduced upon matriculation? (Other than being a Thomas Jefferson scholar...

I don't really understand how it's lying. It's, like, if an iPod is $300 somewhere and $250 somewhere else, why would you pay more? Plus, people do crazier things on the other side (claiming ridiculous people as their dependents: see The Dirty Dozen: 12 Tricky Tax Dependent Dilemmas - TurboTax® Customer Care & Support ) In any case, it seems pretty moot: 1. re what Dean J said 2. ...

I applied for Freshman Admission, but I somehow managed to check off "no" for two boxes under "For Transfer Applicants Only" on the supplement (don't ask me why). I'm assuming it's not an issue since I used the Common App for Freshman Entry, but do you guys think I need to send an email to clarify or anything? /end post-app paranoia
