Haha, agreed. She is probably just extremely busy. Think of all the applicants Penn gets--she is probably swimming in emails. I think you're fine.

Of course it matters. Level II. I read it somewhere on the Penn site, but forgot where.

obviously math IIc. And good luck getting into MIT without that (unless of course you're a URM or loaded)

Is UPenn's SEAS really that...
Published (2009-12-20 18:46:00)
BME is top-5. Overall, however, SEAS is not MIT/Caltech. That's all. In terms of undergrad selectivity, it's still great - similar to Columbia Fu, slightly worse than Cornell engineering.

Is it bad not to send in pg 217?
Published (2009-12-17 01:48:00)
I've heard a lot of stories like the two above this post. I always figured saying the essay was optional was a way of weeding out kids that were too lazy/weren't as interested but they seem to really mean what they say. I did the optional essay partially because I thought I had to and partially because I had a story I wanted to share; I got accepted to Wharton and think that the optional essay probably helped because (not trying to...

Wharton and class rigor
Published (2009-12-17 12:39:00)
That's very vague. What are your classes? Have you or are you currently taking Calculus. I'm pretty sure Wharton is looking for that. For your other classes, I think the Ivies are looking at your coursework based on your school and whether you're challenging yourself or not.

How in the H e l l was i deferred?
Published (2009-12-16 18:14:00)
Hopeful, i think you'll have great chances in the regular decision round, from your stats you're a solid candidate. maybe they just wanted to see if you could bump up your numbers a bit. Good luck man! and btw a 3.8 isnt a bad GPA as people keep saying. that's my UW and wharton took me.

The same. You may not know this, but until the mid-1990s Penn was ranked in the late-teens. Wharton and its graduate schools were still highly ranked, however - it was the improvement of the college itself that caused Penn to shoot up in the rankings. As of 2004, the difference in SAT score between CAS and Wharton was only 14 points. Given that CAS is 60% of the school, this doesn't exactly "make...

^good question, I normally double space my essays, so I would like to know about this as well.
However, I would assume it's double spaced one page, because normally most schools only give you a character limit on their "why ___" essays.

wow they changed it up. And they made it harder! Good luck with that one.
Basically, the prompt restated reads something like this:
"Why should we consider you?"

each school has different cool classes
each school, depending on major / concentration, can be stressful
and since fun is often determined by extracurriculars which are pretty much open to all - that's the same for both schools

No.
Instead, you will meet many kinds of people and discover a lot about yourself.
Then, if you still want to meet a white, Christian male, you will. You have lots of life ahead of you. Don't count on meeting a mate when you're 18.
Besides, maybe you'll meet an upperclassman. That's 145 X 4 possibilities!

I'm still set on Penn, but applying to Brown, Tufts, BC, and BU regular decision. I was already accepted to Drexel, which is my safety. It does suck, and it makes you feel as though you're not good enough.
As for my chances RD...I'm not so sure. I realize that the majority of HYP applicants use Penn as a "safety," but I'm hoping that some weight is given to deferred ED applicants. I'll write a...

I think you deserved to get in, and what is more important is that UPenn thinks you're good enough. Might be time to improve the quality of your freinds or at least to stop letting them tell you what to do. Congratulations on your acceptance!

Wow, you're very helpful, LM118. Thanks. I have a lot of questions, since I am attempting to follow your path.
How do you like Penn, socially, academically, etc.?
Is Wharton as amazing as people like me believe?
How would you rate the academic challenge of your first year?
How has the weather been so far?
Do you like dorm life? Are some dorms better than others? Would ...

1. URM status
2. My guess is that you got deferred rather than rejected because they see you as a potential acceptance if you end up raising your test scores

I'm pretty sure the Penn website used to have admission stats that included the percentages of applicants accepted in different SAT ranges. The higher ranges naturally had the greatest chance of acceptance, but there was still a reasonable chance for those around 1800 (if my memory serves me correctly).
